Yesterday, @caseythehost talked to @SenatorBanks about the Sec of State race and @SOSDiegoMorales

Banks says he’s officially backing Max Engling for Indiana Secretary of State after what he called the “last straw” involving Diego Morales’ former chief of staff .....a non-citizen who allegedly registered to vote illegally.

Banks said Morales “works really hard” and previously had his endorsement, but argued Republicans need a candidate without the baggage to take on Democrats in November.

Banks also explained why he didn’t back @SheltonForIN, saying Republicans need someone who can raise serious money and run a statewide campaign against what he expects to be a heavily funded Democrat operation.

He noted Shelton only has “hundreds of dollars” in his campaign account while @BeauBayh could raise possibly $10 million.

Banks pointed to Engling’s election security background, fundraising ability, and endorsements from figures like Todd Rokita and Victoria Spartz as reasons he believes Engling is the strongest GOP candidate heading into convention season.

The convention is going to be WILD.
