@peoples_pop Nommed the Aplin cause there's just something indelible about the gasping way she sings the title phrase, as if she's actually been waiting to say "oh GOD, I miss you too". And that's all I needed.
@bobbker @peoples_pop @idca__ @DamJef I was deeply underwhelmed by "Vampire" (it felt like a Frankenstein of song fragments which didn't flow very well; I liked it better later)...
So when "BIR?" came out the contrast made me go "PHEW 'Guts' is gonna be great after all".
@peoples_pop @idca__ @DamJef Process of choosing my nom for this poll:
1. see Olivia Rodrigo song
2. draw connection between Wet Leg and "BIR?"
3. remember Wet Leg's performance in these polls
4. grin deviously
:)
@peoples_pop Not that "Bad Idea Right?" needs any more love from me, but as a (just-about) Zoomer, I relate heavily to such poetic lines as "my brain goes ahhhhhhhhh" and "thouuuuuuuuuughts".
@TremendaoNeil@peoples_pop@EdwardAlanStill Ooh, it's changed around a bit since the actual contest, but on studio version alone Serbia was my fave, then Armenia and Malta (depending on my mood), and then two of Austria, Estonia and the UK would've filled my top 5.
What was yours, besides the ones you nommed?
@EdwardAlanStill@peoples_pop I recall that "Tattoo" came within spitting distance of becoming a future Popular entry.
(cut to Tom wiping his brow in relief)
@peoples_pop@EdwardAlanStill Neither was in my top 5 for ESC '23, but still in terms of interestingness I'd definitely plump for Finland and the charming weirdos over Loreen (who is fine, but is very much... there).
@LokpoLokpo1@peoples_pop I think I'd gotten too used to the national final performance for "Cha Cha Cha"; the Eurovision one just looked like they wanted to do MORE and it ended up being too chaotic.
Loreen I'd also seen a few times before but it hadn't gotten to the point of overexposure yet...
@peoples_pop I caught myself humming "Now and Then" yesterday, two months after it came out. And then I started singing the lyrics without realising it.
Damn you, McCartney, you still know the way to my heart.
@peoples_pop TBH I think Loreen gave the better performance at the Eurovision final; the Finnish performance felt like it was overplaying its weirdness card so much and I ended up not voting for it.
The studio version though? Kรครคrijรค wipes the floor.
@peoples_pop Hello Tom! Can I please have:
1. Olivia Rodrigo โ โBad Idea Right?โ
2. FiftyFifty โ โCupidโ
3. The Beatles โ โNow and Thenโ
4. David Kushner โ โDaylightโ
Many thanks once more!
@peoples_pop Not my favourite (or second, or even third) off that parent album, but still something!
(But also I nodded off listening to "Rock Lobster". Sorry.)
@peoples_pop Well, that tossed-off bonus nom certainly went somewhere... in any case I've been going through Kate's discography (mostly new to it!) and "Hounds of Love" still stands out for how it captures that uncertainty so well.
