Medical extended reality (#MXR) is a new field of medicine now recognized by FDA. On Mar 24-25th the MXR community will reunite at the 4th annual #vMed conference at Cedars-Sinai to discuss the latest science. Thanks to our first-in sponsors for helping to make #vMed22 a reality!
Delta variant watch in the UK and Israel
UK—99% Delta, significant spike in cases, relatively small increase in hospitalizations/deaths
Israel—45% Delta, small spike in cases by absolute N, Today: no change (290), 0 deaths again; little rise in hospitalizations, none in deaths
IF, in my medical practice, I took the posture of tacking down the risk of physical harms to patients to ZERO — without considering ppl’s broad human needs — I’d recommend 1) no sex, 2) no driving, 3) no alcohol, 4) no sugar. I’d only incite fear and/or QUICKLY be out of a job.
NY has come a long way from March of 2020. It is time to adjust mask policies in schools according to the science. #Science#COVID19#kids#schools#unmask
Down, down, down. 👍👍
Test positivity 2.8% (7-day avg)
3% drop in hospitalizations (>1000) since yesterday, below 29,000, lowest in over 8 months

An Outlook I wrote for the @washingtonpost on the new CDC guidance: "Do not be afraid to follow the science on the CDC’s current mask guidance as you followed the science before vaccines: embrace their effectiveness" Fall school is in the balance. https://t.co/i2eUrU6Y2B
Big news from the CDC: If you’re fully vaccinated, you do not need to wear a mask – indoors or outdoors, in most settings.
We’ve gotten this far. Whether you choose to get vaccinated or wear a mask, please protect yourself until we get to the finish line.
UPDATE: If you are fully vaccinated against #COVID19, you can resume activities without wearing a mask or staying 6 feet apart, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal or territorial laws, incl. local business and workplace guidance. More: https://t.co/FJMon7WlFO
U.S. cases dropping like a rock! ⬇️42% in 11 days (wkday numb-not wkend reporting bias). Yet govt doctors cont negativity, issuing stern warnings, pushing bad policy & dangling variant fears. ZERO of the hundreds of variants to date worldw have evaded vax ability to prevent death
New @NEJM: mRNA vaccine (@BioNTech_Group/Pfizer) holds up very well in lab studies for immune response against B.1. 526 (New York), B.1.429 (California), B.1.1.7(UK)+ E484K variants 👍

Good summary @NatureNews status of B.1.617/ B.1.617.2 (India) variant. Recent upgrade to a variant of concern (VOC).
✓ Transmissibility increase is the major issue
✓ Immune evasion/vaccine resistance is *not* a prominent feature or concern

We were stuck at 70K cases/day for a long time
In mid-April, cases started falling
It took 10 days to go from 70K to 60K
8 days later, we were at 50K/day
Its been 6 days and about to dip below 40K
Soon, we'll get to 30K
This is exponential decay
And its a good thing
3. Herd immunity does not eradicate the virus
4. Some places in the US have high degree of immunity and likely will hit herd immunity with more vaccinations. Others won't
So here's the bottom line:
This pandemic will end here in the US even if the virus isn't gone
3/4
How can pandemic end if virus still around?
Pandemics end when risk they pose and strategies needed to mitigate that risk, fade into background and become part of normal life
As saying goes, pandemics end with a whimper, not with a bang
This one, too, will end
With a whimper
