Was not ready for Eric Church to deliver the best commencement speech Iโve ever heard.
Six guitar strings. Six pillars of a life.
Faith. Family. Spouse. Ambition. Community. You.
Tune them when youโre whole, not just when youโre broken.
Watch the whole thing.
A big congratulations to our very own @derekparola8 being named the Head Varsity Coach at Lake Zurich High School!
Weโre so happy for Derek and his family. Canโt wait to see what Derek does for that school and community!

In professional sports, we had a saying.
"You don't like it? PLAY BETTER."
Why it was helpful and the lesson you can learn from it:
-
Picture this:
It is 100 degrees and you are preparing for a game in the middle of central Florida.
Expected attendance might creep into the 3 figures (that is 100 people for those counting at home).
Batting practice ends and you head back to your locker room that more closely resembles a military barracks.
The pre-game spread (food) is laid out on a folding table.
- Peanut butter that more hands have touched than I care to think about.
- Jelly that looks like it hasn't seen the inside of a fridge in a few days.
- Bread that hasn't been sealed for a few days
- Half-eaten box of Cheerios and some old bananas
Ready to compete?
That scene is still engrained in my mind from an A-ball game back in 2010.
And guess what? If anyone complained you would be met with the same response:
"You don't like it? Play better."
-
It became a rallying cry for everything that sucked about the minor leagues.
โขSubpar food
โขLong bus rides
โขHotels you despised
You could either sit there and complain or you could play better.
โขPlay better and the higher levels await.
โขPlay better and the big leagues are calling.
โขPlay better and your pre-game meals are 5 stars.
-
So here is the lesson:
In life, much like minor league baseball, there are parts of it that just suck.
You can either sit there and complain about your circumstances or do something about it.
The fact of the matter is most circumstances can be improved by simply playing better.
The mindset you take into those situations is more than half the battle.
So the next time you don't like something, remember you can either complain or just play better.

#Texas HC Steve Sarkisian says he loves seeing Quinn Ewers have fun playing QB.
Quinn's truly great response to my question on what's allowed him to have more fun is hilariously ironic given I'm Jewish, and it's Yom Kippur, the holiest day in Judaism ๐คฃ
