Have you noticed that our political campaigns are almost completely devoid of ideas? No arguing over the size and scope of government. No arguing over America’s role in the world. It’s all personalities, “vibes,” and memes. Our political culture has been badly degraded. Its perfect symbol is that grotesque “cage” on the White House lawn.
@hughhewitt@AaronBMacLean@nfergus@TheFP That was a stellar back-and-forth, and that story at the end that Aaron told as a child in Germany with his parents was, well, shocking. The lesson of history is in books, though, not to be replaced by podcasts, as Niall points out.
@Zoomer_South Walter Russell Mead, who started life in the South, talks about the importance of the Civil War to southerners: "Winners forget, losers remember." https://t.co/6OCjqb1IIu
@poorbjorn I enjoyed it. I read it 50 years ago in school, but I didn't remember the story...Dickens is a master plot developer, bringing all the threads together in the end. I can imagine people eagerly buying the next chapter in the newspaper back then.
@roddreher NYT: "[S]haring some of Mr. Orban’s views on the importance of national sovereignty and the dangers of “woke ideology,” the opposition leader, Mr. Magyar, won votes for Tisza by promising drastic change, though he was often vague on the specifics." https://t.co/5MxdYI1WZ0
@SenatorWarnock Hopefully the next administration will rip away the money that millions of taxpayers earn to pay for this. We can't lose sight of putting taxpayers in jail if they don't agree.
@ThePunnyWorld There were stairs near that same wall, and I saw a man in an orange jump suit scrambling down them. "Hey, jerk! What are you looking at?" He yelled at me. "A condescending con descending", I replied.
