UPDATE: The murder case related to the death of national rugby player Sydney Gongodyo has been adjourned to July 23, 2026, after the State informed the court that investigations are still ongoing. The prosecution told the court that several suspects had been arrested. However, forensic findings reportedly indicated that some of those arrested did not match the evidence gathered during the investigation. Meanwhile, Isaac Kapalaga Kimeze, counsel holding a watching brief for the Rugby Union, told the media that they are working closely with the police to support ongoing investigations and facilitate the arrest of additional suspects linked to the case.

Wakiso High Court today held a criminal session pre-session meeting bringing together key justice sector stakeholders to plan for the forthcoming criminal sessions.

The meeting was chaired by the Head of Circuit, Lady Justice Sarah Langa Siu, and attended by the Resident Judge, Lady Justice Dr. Grace Flavia Lamuno, the incoming Assistant Registrar, HW Emmanuel Bamwite, as well as representatives from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Uganda Prisons Service, Police, defence counsel and other justice actors.

At least 80 cases are expected to be handled during the sessions, with each Judge slated to hear at least 40 cases.

Stakeholders welcomed the joint cause-listing approach and proposed a balanced selection of old and newly registered cases, including matters of significant public interest. Cases involving juveniles were also prioritized for consideration.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions undertook to timely share disclosures with defence counsel to facilitate expeditious hearings and enhance the efficient disposal of cases during the sessions

We’ll not reshare the torture images of @EriasLukwago, as to do so would be to further the interest of the folks carrying out the unlawful actions and to perpetuate his undignified and humiliating treatment.

We’ll say, though, that such actions are a daylight manifestation of the state of our country, captive to the shallow interest of a small clique to whom the law is a suggestion, rather than a command.

You humiliate the man, torture him, but you’ll never match the power of his ideas; the high moral grounds on which he stands will be a summit you will only glance from afar.

We’d demand that he be set free or taken to court through a lawful process if he has committed any crime, but i doubt you’ll heed to such calls. It is out of your grapes. So we will only ask that when you have satisfied your cheap desires, leave him alive to return to his family, cause, and country. He’ll meet and vanquish you in the arena of ideas, law, and morality.
