I am heartbroken beyond words that Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark have died in a violent and politically motivated shooting. Melissa was an exceptional public servant. She was smart and funny and so dedicated to making Minnesota work better for all of us. We cannot tolerate allowing our political differences to explode into political violence that threatens our safety and our democratic form of government. We are praying for Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette. Archie and I send our prayers to the Hortman and Hoffman families. We are bereft.
If this was about babies, there would be universal healthcare. Free education. Free daycare. Southern states would be doing all they can to drop the Black maternal mortality rate. This is about power and control
If we don’t, what message does that send? We can’t sit around, finger point, & hand wring as people’s futures + equality are on the line.
It’s time to be decisive, lead with confidence, fight for a prosperous future for all and protect the vulnerable.
Leave it all on the field.
Congress must pass legislation that codifies Roe v. Wade as the law of the land in this country NOW. And if there aren’t 60 votes in the Senate to do it, and there are not, we must end the filibuster to pass it with 50 votes.

Extremely successful park clean up at Wilson Park today! Best finds were lots of moldy carpet, snowboard, bike tires and the top of a shovel. Stay tuned for what we’re doing next week!

We will not move forward as a city with more force and police presence.
If we truly want to build community, we must listen to the people directly impacted and make investments that address the longstanding racial and economic disparities in Minneapolis.
Friendly reminder that we’re collecting new and gently used winter clothing for our winter clothing drive NOW through the 28th! 😊❄️
There are two different ways to donate (see below)!
