Muhannad Farwana had decorated his tent for his fiancée in preparation for their wedding today. His joy was to be today, but the occupier assassinated him at dawn.
Four-and-a-half-year-old Mu’in al-Ghalayini suffers from severe burns covering 80% of his body, which he sustained when he was nine months old. He has undergone numerous surgeries and skin grafts, but his condition is deteriorating.
"The baby you abOrtEd could've cured cancer."
So could the women you kept in the kitchen, denied education, autonomy, and basic human rights. You didn't care about them either.
The Sameer Project’s Medical Committee of doctors and nurses visit camps to assss their healthcare needs and develop a plan. On their visit to Ahmed Shawky Shelter School and Al-Noor Center on May 5, they met Ashraf who is living with a severe chronic illness that has left him with a massive abdominal hernia and a swollen abdomen that regularly fills with fluid. The pressure is so intense that he must undergo repeated drainage procedures just to find temporary relief. The pain radiates through his body. The varicose veins in his legs have become so painful that he often cries out in agony.
Yet the suffering does not end there.
Like so many displaced people in Gaza, Ashraf has no privacy, no comfortable place to rest, and no access to the consistent medical care his condition requires. Sleeping through the night has become nearly impossible. Every day is a struggle against pain, exhaustion, and uncertainty.
This is why The Sameer Project's Medical Committee visits shelters and camps throughout Gaza. We are not only identifying urgent cases - we are trying to understand and address the root causes of suffering. Again and again, we find people whose chronic illnesses have become life-threatening because healthcare systems have been destroyed, medications are unavailable, and specialist care is out of reach.
For patients like Ashraf, survival is not just about food or shelter. It is about access to treatment, ongoing medical care, and dignity.
