"Internal threats don't take place on a national level, to fight them effectively you need to collaborate on an international level and across various sectors. To defeat a network you need a network" - 🇧🇪Minister @AnneliesVl at the #InsiderThreat symposium in Brussels
IAEA is in contact with Japan Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA, @gensiryokukisei) about the 7.6 earthquake that occurred 07:10 UTC today in Ishikawa Pref. NRA confirms no abnormalities in nuclear power plants within the affected area. IAEA will continue to monitor the situation.
IAEA and Belgium announced today that first-ever Nuclear Energy Summit will be held in Brussels in March 2024. It will be the highest-level meeting to date exclusively focused on the topic of #nuclear energy.

Yesterday Minister @AnneliesVl opened the 🇧🇪 booth in the presence of @rafaelmgrossi showcasing 🇧🇪 as a leading nuclear innovator for sustainable solutions. Come check out sustainable decommissioning & waste management solutions even resulting in the production of delicious 🇧🇪🧇!
🇺🇳🇧🇪 During this 5-days marathon week at the #IAEAGC our focus remains on exchanging on nuclear #safety, #security & #safeguards
🤝 > 20 bilaterals with other regulators, IAEA officials...
⚛️ Discuss common challenges: decommissioning, SMR & new technologies, Ukraine...
Giving the latest updates to the 🇧🇪 population on the situation in 🇺🇦 remains a priority. @FANC_AFCN and @AnneliesVl exchanged on this issue with #IAEA Incident & Emergency Centre which informs & provides assistance to member states on nuclear and radiological emergencies. #GC67
At #IAEAGC, Belgium 🇧🇪 , Finland 🇫🇮 , France 🇫🇷, and Sweden 🇸🇪 shared their journeys related to deep geological repositories for spent fuel, enhancing global cooperation & knowledge sharing. These repositories are game changers for the long-term sustainability of nuclear energy.
Glad to meet up with @iaeaorg's Director General Grossi again. Today we discussed with @FANC_AFCN how we can further enhance our solid partnership regarding the safe, secure and peaceful use of nuclear technology.
This week, @FANC_AFCN will be part of #TeamBelgium at the General Conference of the @iaeaorg in Vienna #IAEAGC.
As regulatory authority, we are looking forward to share and exchange on #nuclearsafety & #nuclearsecurity with colleagues & experts from 177 other countries. 🌍
This photograph was captured during the 5th Solvay Conference on Quantum Mechanics in Brussels, Belgium, in 1927. Among the 29 attendees, 17 were either Nobel Prize laureates or would go on to become one in the future. Notably, Marie Skłodowska-Curie, positioned two seats to the left of Albert Einstein, who is seated in the middle of the front row, was the sole woman in attendance. She holds the distinction of being the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, the first person to win it twice, and the only individual to secure Nobel Prizes in two distinct fields: physics and chemistry.
Here are the names of the other attendees. Some of these names may sound familiar, especially if you've studied physics, as many fundamental physical constants bear their names:
Front row: Irving Langmuir, Max Planck, Marie Skłodowska-Curie, Hendrik Lorentz, Albert Einstein, Paul Langevin, Charles-Eugène Guye, C.T.R Wilson, Owen Richardson.
Middle row: Peter Debye, Martin Knudsen, William Lawrence Bragg, Hendrik Anthony Kramers, Paul Dirac, Arthur Compton, Louis de Broglie, Max Born, Niels Bohr.
Back row: Auguste Piccard, Émile Henriot, Paul Ehrenfest, Édouard Herzen, Théophile de Donder, Erwin Schrödinger, JE Verschaffelt, Wolfgang Pauli, Werner Heisenberg, Ralph Fowler, Léon Brillouin.
🇧🇪 attaches great importance to raising the number of 🚺 in the nuclear field!
The Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship of the #IAEA aims to do just that, find out more about the program 👇 and apply now!
Monday marked the start of the Preparatory Committee on the Treaty of the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, with over 90 State Parties participating in the discussions.
BE will actively strive to preserve the #NPT, promote its universalisation & 💪🏻 its implementation.
In the next 2 weeks, @iaeaorg will be reviewing @FANC_AFCN's activities. This morning, Minister @AnneliesVl and team leader @CNSC_CCSN's Ramzi Jammal kicked off this intense race. We will share and explain the Belgian framework for #nuclear safety and #radiation#protection.
Proud to announce a 🇧🇪contribution of € 1.000.000 to @iaeaorg assistance mission to 🇺🇦. We support the IAEA's important work to help ensure safety and security at nuclear installations in 🇺🇦! 👇👇👇
DG @rafaelmgrossi said today he will travel to 🇺🇦’s #Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant. The height of the reservoir has reached 11.62 metres at 7pm local time. #ZNPP can pump water from reservoir to plant until level falls to 11 metres or possibly lower.

☢️ Radioactiviteit? 🔗 https://t.co/Q4FVrGfbfU
