Another #Canadian summer day, another yearly #fail from Environment Canada - #forestfire#smoke already in #ontario and causing problems
Remember:
If the sky be glowing
Smoke and pollution be blowing

One US cruise passenger admitted to planning to self-isolate in an Airbnb in Florida before CDC thankfully stepped in and mandated isolation in the specialized Nebraska unit.

It sounds like, in both Canada and Spain, cruise passengers were allowed to share common areas during quarantine - shortly before starting to test positive for hantavirus in both countries.

Important Andes Hantavirus field experience from Chile:
"a grandson tested positive on Day 14 but NEVER developed any symptoms! This proves that asymptomatic infections happen with the Andes virus, highlighting exactly why mandatory testing is so crucial even if you feel fine"
1 of the 4 Canadians in quarantine has tested positive for hantavirus.
"Henry said 'the four Canadians isolating in the Island Health region had no known direct contact with the people who fell ill on the ship.'"

This infection has no known direct contact.
That's troublesome.
BREAKING: A person on Vancouver Island, who was repatriated from the hantavirus cruise, has tested positive for the Andes strain of hantavirus. This explains why there is a Saturday news conference in Victoria on the long weekend.

France is escalating.
French authorities are now saying that if exposure details are unclear, ANY passenger sharing a flight with a confirmed/probable MV Hondius case should be treated as HIGH RISK.
Not “monitor casually.”
42 days.
Restricted social interactions.
Avoid international travel.
FFP2 masks.
Active follow-up.
"An antiviral pill has, for the first time, been shown to prevent COVID-19 in people exposed to the SARS-CoV-2 virus at home..
The drug, called ensitrelvir, is made by the Japanese pharmaceutical company Shionogi..
In an international study of more than 2,000 household contacts conducted from June 2023 to September 2024, about 9% of people who got a placebo within 72 hours of a housemate developing symptoms became symptomatic themselves, compared with only about 3% of those who got a five-day course of ensitrelvir.
Rates of viral transmission were lower in the ensitrelvir group, too: confirmed infections, symptomatic or not, turned up in only 14.0% of those who received the drug, compared with 21.5% of those who got a placebo.."
Not bad.

j’ai pas bien suivi la… ils confinent un bateau entier pour une gastro mais pas pour le virus au taux de mortalité de 40% la ?? jss preneuse de tte explication bienveillante svp
Regarding the current spread, which I hope they get under control...
Exponential growth can be hard to understand until it's too late.
Just using the numbers we have right now, 173 identified exposed people, and assuming that came from one source, which it did not in this case, to further demonstrate this is hypothetical...
If we have 1 source and 173 exposures, and all of those people go on to infect the same number of people... 173 each with an incubation rate of 6 weeks... then it reaches 155 billion cases in 24 weeks.
Four cycles would infect more people than are alive, by a large market.
My point is that a fast public health response, interventions, and the identification of these situations before they happen are all critical.
Things can get out of control so much faster than most realize.
@KosSamaras Gladys Berejiklian provided the masterclass in class equity with her lockdown of W Syd whilst Eastern suburbs were fine. Ruby
Princess anyone?
the R0, death rate, & incubation period of andes hantavirus should've been enough to get y'all concerned.
all the vague choose-your-own-interpretation statements by authorities rn is just noise
Can anyone tell me why we’re spreading the people from the cruise (exposed to hantavirus) all over the USA to quarantine, instead of keeping them all in one facility to reduce risk of further exposure (multi-state outbreaks) during transportation & to provide uniform management?”
Ils sont prêt à risquer la moitier de la population mondiale pour pas confiner quelques personnes 40 jours car « c’est inhumain » mdrrr vraiment n’importe quoi on est géré par des incapables mdrr
