I started at CAEP in '14 & was privilaged to meet Jill early on. Although I'm not a Doc, she too mentored me from a CAEP membership standpoint. She was inpiring when she stood tall, strong & confident as often one of few ♀️ in the room. Something I had rarely seen in my career.

It is with absolute profound sadness that CAEP has learned of the sudden passing of Past President Dr. Jill McEwen. Dr. McEwen was an Emergency Medicine legend who broke down barriers forging a path for female Emergency Physicians in the generations that followed her. 🧵

It's time once again to remind everyone that emergency department (ED) crowding is not due to low acuity visits. ED crowding is due to hospital crowding and the inability to move admitted patients to the floors. Emergency Physicians can handle busy. It's crowding that kills.

22 years ago Dr. Drummond wrote "No room at the inn" and that narrative of no place for the admitted to hospital patient languishing in the ER remains sadly true. It is a collective national failure not immune to any political party or province. @alandrummond2

I would think it would be fairly obvious that Canada's emergency physicians consider our nursing colleagues to be full and equal partners in realizing the vision of an accessible, effective and equitable emergency health service.

Here it is. Almost 3 years of work. 100s of meetings. Connecting and working with some of the most inspirational leaders in health care. This is one of the greatest privileges and accomplishments of my career thus far. I along with almost everyone I know have had to visit an ED.

@alandrummond2 While many provincial deputy ministers have accepted the invitation to the forum, as of this morning: 1) the DM from Ontario declined to attend the forum 2) the DM from Manitoba declined to attend the forum and 3) the federal health DM declined to attend the forum.

So, the Province of Manitoba has declined to attend a meeting with Canada's emergency physicians to improve the delivery of emergency health care in Canada.

I would ask Minister Asagwara @UAsagwara why?

Manitoba is hardly the poster child for excellence in emergency care.
