There's a lot of people ranting around here about why Masamune Shirow, an artist who's work has always been imbued with beautiful women and the like, "wasted his talent" drawing adult themed works. I really can't get over how much cultural relativism happens around this.
I have the line "This day will never come again, so let me have this moment" that Tifa spoke tattooed on me for a reason.
It wasn't just her beauty, she was an incredible character who was well written. That line stuck with me from the first time I saw it to the time when I decided to get the tattoo. It's been a great reminder to just enjoy every single day with someone you care about.
Rino makes one of the most beautiful points, that this reduction of women today is exceptionally sexist and degrading. Beauty has nothing to do with worth or content, yet some people have made it that way, to state you can't have a pretty character and story just seems.....wrong. This idea that a character should be more "real"- still no one can tell me what that even means. Are real women not beautiful? What are you telling the women who are casted as models for these western games- are they not beautiful people?
when it comes to changes:
In degrading characters and art in the physical sense, they also changed character personalities. Look at the new Lara Croft and how they don't understand her at all, and that confusion and shallowness shows in the physical design.
Games are a form of art that offer a chance for escapism. The human brain craves beauty, i've said it before. And all forms of art deserve to exist as the author intended and without the influence of someone else who demands change or censorship, no matter what that censorship is. Throughout all of history, idealistic forms of art have existed, why is that now a problem? The people seeking to tear that down are never on the right side of history, you know......
There is nothing wrong with exaggerated, sexualized, beautiful, or NSFW art. To demand change to any of that is to be a pearl clutching catholic from the 90s who would label pokemon demonic- thanks for coming full circle I guess? When you decry these things, but cheer for real life NSFW creators, do you have any idea how ignorant you look?
Censorship came for them too! Patreon took away the ability for them to create what they wanted at the request of payment companies, which will turn around and happily support other forms of entertainment that showcase the very thing they restrict on other platforms!
This whole conversation is a sad joke. Let a woman's body be appreciated, let it be the art that it is. And a man's body! Adults should be able to decide what to do and what to buy and what to create. If you don't like something, don't go looking it up? Don't consume that content- in fact, go create what you want to see and share it with the world.
Everyone should be cheering together that a grown adult woman entered into a contract with a studio to have her likeness used- that should be BADASS to EVERYONE! And the stories being told around it? It's fine if it's not for you, but this whole "well its shallow" because you don't understand it or refuse to understand, it is just tiring.
Let all art exist without the guilt or check boxes or demands of censorship. The most beautiful characters throughout gaming history also happen to have beautiful stories- don't project your intentional ignorance on the rest of us just because you don't get it, window shopper (speaking to these weirdos who cry for censorship, the double standard 'journalists', and the people crying porn addicts who seem to forget their likes are public).
@ChounyuuChuuni@CartoonistMark@pixiv The new ToS is literally about restricting content tho. They said "fuck off" to content creators, not to payment processors.
I know the synopsis is just a translation of the original, but daily reminder that Japan's suicide rate is actually lower than the USA, significantly lower than South Korea or Russia or even Belgium, and pretty much on par with European countries like Sweden and Finland.

@Nyxil@Fish_andChipper@sosagamboa@OhPoorPup You literally are saying that the christian imagery has _deeper_ meaning that aesthetics, and you are being annoyingly pseudo-intellectual in how you articulate this. Hence the "Deep (tm)" :)
@Nyxil@Fish_andChipper@sosagamboa@OhPoorPup I'm not calling anyone pretentious for having an opinion. I'm calling people pretentious for having an opinion and being an insufferable smug ass about it. Idk how to make it more clear, like, idgaf about your opinion per se.
@Nyxil@Fish_andChipper@sosagamboa@OhPoorPup You don't know that he's using it to tell a story though. You just know that he's using the _aesthetics_ of it. Everything beyond that needs to be argued. The themes of evangelion are not necessarily christian at all, and the use of christian imagery doesn't prove shit.
@Fish_andChipper@Nyxil@sosagamboa@OhPoorPup That wasn't my intention at all. I was just refuting the "self-evident" part by showing a testimony from a person familiar with the work and the authors who did not come to your same conclusion. Wild that you couldn't even grasp that with your massive literate brain of yours.
@Nyxil@Fish_andChipper@sosagamboa@OhPoorPup And I guess we can add Gainax translator Michael House to the list of illiterates who missed the clearly "self-evident" Deep Meanings (tm)
@Nyxil@Fish_andChipper@sosagamboa@OhPoorPup They also say that imagery is meant to look mysterious and inscrutable, to the point that they woudn't have used it for a western audience (because they would actually get the references, unlike the japanese audience). But somehow you see an clear deeper intention in all this lol
@Nyxil@Fish_andChipper@sosagamboa@OhPoorPup Besides, "eva can be interpreted using X symbology and themes" does _not_ mean that the authors _intended_ that interpretation in the first place. We are talking about author intent here, which is something that you have to demonstrate with smth more substantial than "it fits".
@Nyxil@Fish_andChipper@sosagamboa@OhPoorPup I'm using those quotes to invalidate smug claims that "Anno never said that", because yes, he actually did _literally_ say that. Again, y'all can have your opinion on this. Just try to not be insufferable pricks about it. That's really all I'm asking.
