.@POTUS is in Kankakee this afternoon visiting OC Farm to discuss soaring food prices and the impact the Russian war in Ukraine has had on food supply.
Farmers are “literally the backbone of America,” responsible for feeding the nation and the world. All American jobs are important, but if farmers quit their jobs, we’d all starve, the president said.
With soaring food costs, “prices in the grocery store have gone up and the prices farmers receive has gone down,” Biden said. The administration invested ARPA dollars into increasing competition in meat and food providers to cut prices.
Biden vowed to expand insurance coverage for farmers risking the practice of double cropping, or planting two different crops in the same season. Cutting red tape will give farmers more financial security, the president said.
