If you are 40 years or older, start taking good care of yourself, especially your diet, sleep, exercise, and stress management. The body starts rebelling shortly before you turn 50, and a lot of people die between the ages of 50 and 65 when they are warming up for their pension. I have lost seven people recently, between the ages mentioned.

So let me put it this way,
It is actually possible to calculatedly improve your cognitive abilities - to think, memorize, analyze better.
There are activities that help with attention, focus, processing speed, multitasking, visual spatial skills.
For example, If you want to widen your analytical abilities - you can train your brain to wire new neural networks.
When you learn how to do a task for the first time, whether as a child or adult - your brain builds a neural network which eventually becomes a routine. You can train your brain to break out of that neural network and branch out.
My favorite exercise here is switching what hand I use in brushing my teeth, as often as I can.
There are multiple exercises for different brain sections.
You can stimulate the DMN part of the brain which is responsible for idea generation, is creativity. Learn a new instrument, language, meditation, daydreaming.
The hippocampus is responsible for memory formation, new vocab, semantics. You can improve that region by playing navigation based games, aerobics, memory exercises.
