🇺🇸U.S national debt has crossed $40 TRILLION.
That’s a warning sign.
Washington is spending roughly $1 trillion a yr just on interest, while the debt keeps climbing. At some point, the bill comes due & future generations will be the ones paying it.
How long can this continue?

@Stocksalute France is just the loud version of the same problem. They spent like the good years never ended, and the bond market is calling it.
The euro drop is the outside signal. Inside it is higher taxes, a pension fight, and people who already work full time and still feel broke.
@spencedyor Yeah. The job still pays. It just doesn’t buy the life it used to.
You can do everything right & still have nothing left if the car breaks or the rent jumps. From the outside it looks fine. Inside it’s just keeping the lights on.
That’s the part people miss. You’re not failing.

@FutTakes Yeah that tracks hard. Same high income but one side builds freedom and the other builds a whole different kind of life.
Parents often see the point in the kids while the child free see it in the space and options. Money just shows the tradeoff.
People talk about having kids like the COST ends at DAYCARE.
It doesn’t.
A couple earning $300k with no kids can throw money at retirement, pay the house off early, travel, change jobs without panicking and actually build some breathing room.
Add children and the same income starts getting assigned before it even arrives.
Childcare.
Bigger health insurance premiums.
Food.
Activities.
College savings.
Maybe a bigger house.
Maybe one parent works less.
And then there’s the stuff nobody puts in the spreadsheet.
Less flexibility.
Less sleep.
Less time.
But here’s the weird part.
People with kids will look at that child-free couple and think they’re missing the whole point of life.
The child-free couple might look back and wonder why anyone voluntarily gave up that much financial freedom.
SAME $300K INCOME.
Two completely different definitions of BEING RICH.
And I’m not sure money can tell you which ONE is right.
@shaguncrypto Yeah that steady $53k a year with the principal locked in safe does sound pretty peaceful.
You could just collect the interest and ignore the market noise for decades.
Still the inflation over that long stretch might chip away at what that money actually buys.
@CV_Investing Interest costs beating defense spending is a real wake up call. The numbers show how deep this hole has gotten.
Borrowing just to cover the interest on old debt never ends well. Fiscal dominance already feels like it is driving policy whether anyone wants to admit it or not.
