RIP broadcaster René Cardenas, the first MLB Spanish broadcaster for the Dodgers in 1958, who was inducted into the Houston Astros Hall of Fame in 2024.
Thinking about the time Ted Turner fired the manager of the Atlanta Braves and appointed himself as the replacement to try to figure out why the team was so bad and break a 16-game losing streak.
He managed for one game in 1977 before the National League told him he couldn’t do that.
"They must have put that rule in yesterday,” he told a reporter. “If I'm smart enough to save $11 million to buy the team, I ought to be smart enough to manage it."
Matt Olson is having a monster year. Leads all of MLB in WAR, RBIs and runs, is atop the National League with 13 home runs and just hit a go-ahead homer to dead center off Andrés Muñoz. Atlanta has the best record in MLB in large part because of Olson.
This is a really bad look for Francisco Alvarez. McLean shook him off five times before he was forced to throw a middle-middle fastball to Schanuel just to avoid a pitch clock violation.
How are you not on the same page as your pitcher in the first inning? It makes me seriously question his preparation and his ability to handle this pitching staff. #lgm
