The global helium supply chain is tightening:

China's helium imports from Qatar have collapsed to near zero, from a peak of ~65 million cubic feet in late-2025, the lowest on record.

Imports from Russia have declined -50 million cubic feet over the last 2 quarters, to ~38.5 million cubic feet, the lowest since Q3 2025.

The drop comes as the Iran War disrupts exports from Qatar, which supplied ~33% of global helium before the conflict,

As a result, spot helium prices for immediate delivery have roughly DOUBLED over the last 4 months.

Meanwhile, China has introduced new export controls on helium, despite not being a major producer itself, as the country relies heavily on imports to supply critical industries, including semiconductor manufacturing and medical equipment.

China has also been an important transit route for Russian helium into Europe since direct EU imports from Russia were restricted.

Helium supply is being squeezed from multiple directions.

My co-founder @ArmanHezarkhani broke down Kimi K3 (new 2.8T parameter Chinese model) on @FoxBusiness today with @cvpane.

We had our engineers testing it all day before he went on air.

Here's the gist:

1) K3 is very good. As good, if not better, than many of the American frontier models.

2) The cost story is being misread. Everyone expects a Chinese model to be the cheap one. Per token, K3 is competitive. Per run (the actual job you outsource to the model), it's as expensive as the frontier models. But it's supposedly open source, so developers will attack the cost curve. Give it weeks, not quarters.

3) The playbook should look familiar. It's the same one China ran on solar panels & EVs: flood the market with cheap supply, wait for the addiction, then move the price.

4) The internet & the space race were funded by the US government, and innovators competed on top of the platform. AI got funded by private markets, and now the same companies that spent those trillions are getting hamstrung right as China gives its models away.

5) On guardrails: the bad guys will have completely unconstrained tools no matter what we do. Foreign adversaries, and bad actors here at home. If the good guys don't have equally powerful tools, only one side is armed.

6) Commoditized models are actually good news for the hyperscalers. All that open source intelligence has to run somewhere, and Google & AWS will get paid a lot of money to run it.

7) The labs saw this coming too. It's why Anthropic & OpenAI are racing up the application layer instead of just selling tokens.

第一点其实很明显。在Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index上，Kimi K3获得了57分，超过Anthropic的Claude Opus 4.8（56 分）以及OpenAI的GPT-5.6 Terra（55 分）。然而，Moonshot AI的估值仅约300亿美元，而OpenAI和Anthropic都希望在IPO时达到约1万亿美元市值。其他中国开源大模型公司的估值也普遍远低于1000亿美元。要么是Moonshot AI和其他中国AI公司被市场严重低估，要么就是OpenAI和Anthropic的估值高得离谱。如今，投资者越来越倾向于相信后者。

第二点，则是AI基础设施CAPEX的逻辑开始出现裂痕。在传统基础设施投资周期中，例如铁路建设或1990年代的光纤网络，一座数据中心或一条铁路通常都会按照15至20年的使用寿命进行折旧。但AI基础设施完全不同。一块GPU真正具有竞争力的生命周期只有约3至5年，很快就会被下一代架构淘汰。

因此，过去市场一直相信，云计算巨头必须持续投入巨额资本，不断建设更多数据中心、采购更多GPU，才能维持竞争优势。

更关键的是，虽然GPU芯片更新换代只需要几年，但围绕GPU的实体基础设施——包括土地、电网变电站、高压变压器以及液冷管道——却往往需要3至5年才能建成。

科技巨头一直认为，正因为芯片迭代速度太快，所以今天就必须提前超前建设数据中心。这样，当下一代性能更强、功耗更高的GPU发布时，他们才能立即把新芯片插进已经供电完成的机架中投入使用。如果等芯片发布之后才开始建设数据中心，竞争早已结束。

整个CAPEX投资逻辑建立在一个假设之上：只有不断购买最新、最强的硬件，才能实现最前沿的AI能力。

但如果中国AI实验室能够依靠高度稀疏的模型架构（例如每个Token仅激活896个专家中的16个），就在编程和推理能力上达到全球领先水平，那么这证明算法效率完全可以在一定程度上替代巨额硬件投入。

Kimi K3也进一步证明，大语言模型未来很可能会迅速商品化。不过，我认为这次市场的抛售反应明显过度了。

首先，虽然模型权重可以免费下载，但真正运行模型绝不是免费的。“免费模型”只有在你本身已经拥有价值数百万美元的 AI 算力基础设施时才是真正免费。

对于99.9%的企业而言，自行部署一个拥有2.8万亿参数的大模型，无论从运营还是财务角度几乎都是不可能完成的任务。因此，它们仍然需要向云计算平台或API服务商付费调用模型，整个商业化模式并不会因此消失。真正具有讽刺意味的是，拥有2.8万亿参数 的Kimi K3，本身其实就是一个极其消耗GPU算力和显存资源的”吞卡怪兽”。

此外，K3的发布时间点也非常不巧。SK海力士ADR上周上市，引发了极强的FOMO情绪，美国ADR一度较韩国本土股票溢价超过50%。与此同时，智谱AI和MiniMax的IPO前锁定期也刚刚结束。全球AI投资者原本就已经准备开始获利了结、兑现收益，因此K3的发布只是恰好成为了市场集中卖出的催化剂。我仍然认为，AI的长期投资逻辑并没有改变。
