@PolitlcsUK “Adults can still access social media through age checks like facial recognition, digital IDs, passports and credit cards”
And this is what it’s really all about. Disgusting
lmao this is beyond batshit btw
to be clear: he's literally mandating actual spyware on your phones and computers (aka "device controls")
big brother (or big sister in keirs case) is somehow not fiction anymore
If we give government the power to scan your phone for child porn (fair enough) they will eventually use it to scan your phone for jokes they don’t like, or conversations you shouldn’t be having
Police: We're going to have cameras to look inside your car to check you aren't using a mobile phone fuck your privacy nothing to hide nothing to fear
Public: It seems you were laughing and let a young man die. We would like the footage
Police: That would be inappropriate
@0xsmac@Hedgeye Someone at SpaceX told me there will be 140 new Billionaires from the IPO. In a sense though people doing passive investing deserve to get fleeced and have been under fleeced relative to other asset classes
Hike capital gains tax by 87.5%, as Wes suggests, and watch as all asset transactions grind to a complete halt until Labour loses power and the tax rise is reversed.
So the Labour leadership contest is moving into an arms race to tax the country’s entrepreneurs, risk takers and job creators ever higher. Just what low growth Britain needs right now.
More typical economically illiterate tax ideas from Labour’s wannabe leader.
Perhaps Wes would care to look at what has happened to CGT receipts as allowances have been reduced and rates raised - they have fallen by £ billions.
His proposals will suppress entrepreneurship, reduce sales of assets & reduce revenues. In other words, like all of Labour’s other tax rises, his proposals would be totally counter productive.
What you don’t understand, @wesstreeting - is that your cleaner’s landlord is taking a risk with their money. Just like every entrepreneur, business person and investor does.
If you increase taxes on risk takers there’ll be fewer entrepreneurs, fewer risks taken, fewer jobs created, lower growth, less tax collected from wealth creators, which will then shift the tax burden back onto your cleaner.
It’s naive 6th form political nonsense, which just goes to show that it’s not just Starmer that’s the problem, it’s the whole Labour movement that really doesn’t have a clue how the system actually works.
Wes Streeting has this morning set out his tax plans - specifically bringing capital gains tax into line with income tax
He says that the current system is unfair because it penalises work
Higher or additional rate taxpayers will pay 24% on gains in the current financial year. Streeting said that the rates should mirror income tax bands - so 40% for higher rate taxpayers and 45% for additional rate taxpayers
He says that the approach could raise £12billion a year
Streeting said: “A member of my family is a cleaner in Lancashire. She pays a higher tax rate on her salary than her landlord pays for the growing value of the home she lives in. She slogs her guts out, he puts in far less effort, yet the state rewards him more than her. And we wonder why people are angry.
“The system is penalising work. It’s not fair and it’s bad for our economy. We need a wealth tax that works. A pound made from simply owning assets should not be taxed less than a pound made from a hard day's work. We can do it in a way that is pro-growth, pro-entrepreneur and pro-work.”

this Labour raid, with frozen thresholds since 2009 (!!) now drags middle-class families… teachers, nurses, small business owners etc - who’ve contributed into their pensions for decades - straight into a 40% inheritance tax hit on their life savings
this government don’t want to just tax the rich, they want to tax anyone and anything they can
this is a disgraceful breach of faith
The “effectively quit” line is really bugging me.
Someone needs to ask the question why would a coach who won 2 trophies, met minimum expectation suddenly decided he had enough after he didn’t get a centre-back?
I maintain we’d have come 4th or 5th this season with a good CB.
ABSOLUTE HEROES.
Pilot Antoine Forest and First Officer Mackenzie Gunther tragically lost their lives in Sunday’s horrific LaGuardia crash, but they made the ultimate sacrifice and saved EVERY SINGLE passenger on board. Their Air Canada flight collided with a firetruck, but because of their incredible bravery, everyone else walked away.
Survivor Rebecca Liquori said it best: she is “forever indebted” to them.
God bless these two heroes and their families. This is what true bravery looks like! 🙏
Only Chelsea manager since Tuchel to win a trophy and not only one but a new trophy beating the team that hammered us 8-2 in the Round of 16 in the UCL by a whooping dominant 3-0 in what was in my opinion Chelsea's best final performance of all time. He not only showed some semblance of tactical direction and stability, he showed Chelsea can compete with any team and win. Enzo just literally said this days ago. Why does City want him? Because he's the next big thing and has shown it already.
