@hajekd nah ... the industry is incredibly well equipped to deal with this sort of thing. We've gone through this before. It'll be fine. And we'll be better for it.
It's actually crazy how much money you need to be wealthy in San Francisco. How are people starting from 0 supposed to feel? I can kind of understand why all they care about is raising money to scam investors, it's literally their only shot, so it's become a culture unto itself.
Had a guy I just met at a friends house on his way out, double back from the elevator, and ask if we knew any Brazilian companies cause he was brokering data buys
The number of cold outreaches I get from labs trying buy my biz data for model training is crazy lately.
Multiple brokers, reaching out primarily on behalf of Google and OpenAI but also Anthropic occasionally are hitting up up begging to buy my business emails, presentations, spreadsheets, even asking for anon customer support threads and billing data, and in some cases they’ve inquired about my old business data from companies I’ve left and have no data for anymore, for example SingleHop.
I’ve obviously ignored all of this and it never intend to do it. But makes me wonder who is agreeing to this?
Offers are interesting too. $0.5 per Slack message, even if it’s just hello. $225 for a powerpoint. Etc.
But I think it tells us something about how scarce training data has become. And how valuable it will be in the future.
grateful to ecco2k dropping new trax altho i am no longer a depressed bisexual college student with a substance-use disorder + interests in "moving to berlin", ketamine and new models podcast, its good to catch up with him like you would an old friend after your interests diverge
Doug Leone on the mistake every VC makes: Selling their winners too early.
“We owned 20% of Nvidia and sold. We were the first investor in Apple and sold. We owned 10% of Google and sold.”
“If we hadn’t sold Google that would be half a trillion dollars.”
“We owned a quarter of Cisco and sold.” ($411 billion market cap)
“We had big ownership in very big companies.”
“The great companies compounded 20+ years after the IPO. If you had a little sniffer that this thing has essentially an unbounded market for many years, you should never sell a share.”
“You can make way more money holding those. If you're compounding a $5 billion gain that can turn into a $50 billion gain.”
@tenobrus Perhaps the divergence in view is whether punishment is designed to prevent offender from causing harm or deter other offenders. I grew up super lib anti prison but now idk. Answered 5,5,50,50
@loraclexyz Any view on how quantum story might resolve out (real risk aside) feels like hurting spot allocation desire across instos + myself and others
It’s a bit brutal but BTC is probably going to be the big winner of the AI revolution. I don’t think it will suffer any hacks, the scripting language formal verification is very advanced and work in formalizing the protocol too. Nodes running on different hardware make it very robust against hardware vulnerabilities, and their sources are probably one of the most audited code in the world. Combine that with self sovereignty which protects against political backslash from K shaped economy and acceleration of margins flowing to capital, I don’t see much else. To be honest this is my macro view but it’s a pretty grim one.
