For anyone feeling the need to comment on this post, I encourage you to look at the Family Violence dashboard produced by the Crime Statistics Agency in Victoria. In 2024-2025 73% of perpetrators of family violence were male.
Police respond to a domestic violence situation every two minutes in this country.
This is why “joking” about violence against women is not funny. Ever.
It normalises VAW and provides cover for men who think violence is acceptable.

Domestic and family violence hasn't been a major election issue. While the major parties are starting to talk about it, it's not enough. @Kate_FitzGibbon@OurANU@MonashUni https://t.co/L2XVP8J7qp
As @Respect__Vic highlights, research tells us that sexism and disrespect towards women contribute to a culture that allows, justifies, or even promotes violence towards women.
It is why we need to call it out and learn to do better!

On average, every 10 days in Australia a woman is killed by a man they know. It doesn’t have to be this way – violence against women and family violence is preventable. Joining the Walk Against Family Violence is an opportunity to take action in solidarity with victim-survivors.

Matildas fever has swept across Australia. After decades of hearing the phrase “you play like a girl” being used as insult, to see women’s sport exalted on the world stage is a glimmer of what a future where women are equal looks like.
Fantastic piece by @Respect__Vic on why we’re so excited about the Matildas https://t.co/2jUeVkFMKA

We reached a milestone recently that we’re pretty proud of - since 2014, our preventative mental health programs have reached more than 50,000 young men across Australia.
Almost every week in Australia a woman is killed by a man they know. Here’s what we need to be shouting from the rooftops: violence against women is preventable. It doesn’t need to be this way.
