It’s unfortunate to see a number of bands making light of what is an extremely divisive time in our politics. For the first time in our history, homeowners are receiving official letters from the government informing them that their home may no longer belong to them. This is not hyperbole; it’s real, and as a Member of Parliament, it is my duty to stand up for my constituents and their rights.

Additionally, decision-making authority over public lands including parks, forestry and other developments, are increasingly being transferred to groups that 95% of British Columbians have no ability to vote for or hold democratically accountable – all on the basis of ethnicity.

Most of all, we need to end the kind of identity politics that pits Canadians against one another. Whether you are Indigenous or not, we are all Canadians. We all belong here, and we all deserve to call this place home.

Hidden on page 744 of the farm bill the House Agriculture Committee passed Thursday is a provision that would condemn millions of pigs to a lifetime in gestation crates.

Rebranded the 'Save Our Bacon Act,' it's a pork-industry play to wipe out every state law banning the sale of pork from crated pigs — laws the conservative Supreme Court upheld in 2023.

Over 85% of Democrats and Republicans oppose these crates. Voters have backed ballot measures to ban them in state after state.

The pork industry knows it can't win a straight vote on this. So it's burying the provision in an 800-page bill and hoping no one notices.

After Iranian missile strikes hit the UAE in early March 2026, thousands of expats rushed to leave Dubai. But as flights filled, a quieter crisis unfolded: hundreds of pets were abandoned. Dogs were found tied to lamp posts, left in empty apartments, or dumped near shelters already at capacity.

Rescue volunteers reported being overwhelmed. One said she received 27 messages in a single day from owners asking her to take their animals. Vets were flooded with requests to euthanize pets whose owners couldn't or wouldn't take them. Rescue groups like K9 Friends Dubai and War Paws called the situation heartbreaking, especially in one of the wealthiest cities on earth.

The crisis drew sharp criticism toward influencers and expats who built entire brands around luxury Dubai living but left their animals behind without a plan when things turned dangerous.
