I fully agree with the principle being stated here— Teams shouldn’t be punished for going on the road to Top 5 programs

The problem is that Texas got beat by 25 at UGA, lost to a talented but poor Florida team, needed a miracle comeback at Miss St and went to OT at UK. They never looked as good on turf as they did on paper.

I will rail against ranking teams by the loss column until the cows come home, but Texas never really showed elite form. They aren’t the best team to champion that cause

This is why you don't negotiate with terrorists. The committee placated them after Bama was "left out" (for better teams, mind you) in 2024. In 2025:

-5 of the 12 teams in the playoffs were SEC
-Their only playoff wins were against a G5 and each other
-Their lowest seeded team was ranked ahead of two 10-2 teams (one of which made the NC Game) and an 11-2 team despite being 10-3. That team's losses included a blowout loss to a 5-7 FSU team that won 2 games in the ACC and a 21-point loss to UGA. They then lost to Indiana by 5 TDs in the Rose Bowl.

All evidence points to the SEC getting TOO MANY teams in. So what are they saying now?

They are complaining that a 9-3 team with a loss to a 4-win Florida team, that also needed miracles to beat Mississippi State and Kentucky, did not jump the aforementioned 10-2 and 11-2 teams (all 3 of them) and get in over the team that made the NC Game so they could have HALF the teams.

You don't have to listen to the gaslighting. Tell them to actually be good at football next time and move on.

A fun fact is that Texas would have still missed the CFP in 2025 if it was based solely on FPI/advanced metrics.

It wasn’t a Big 12 or ACC team that took their spot… it was SEC Oklahoma, who was 15th. The three worst at-larges in FPI were all SEC teams.

It’s the delusion of thinking every single team is amazing every single year and even their worse teams are better than everyone else.

Tennessee: didn’t beat a single team that finished with a winning record, lost bowl to B1G team.

Missouri: didn’t beat a single team that finished with a winning record, lost bowl to ACC team.

LSU: literally 7-6, got embarrassed in their own stadium by Texas A&M, lost bowl to Big 12 team.

Alabama: Lost by 14 to 5-7 FSU, squeaked past 4-8 South Carolina, squeaked past 5-7 Auburn, lost by 21 and put up -3 rushing yards in the SECCG, lost CFP game by 35.

SEC has the most draftable talent. It might have the fans who care the most. But it also doesn't have players who care about winning as much & playing like a team compared to some other leagues. Too much "me" culture on some SEC rosters. Hard to quantify, impossible to ignore
