@zachhazard@lane_lane_lane I'm 50 years old and I grew up in the bay area. I know people who live with, and have died from, AIDS. I have read plenty about it. Stop putting words in my mouth.
@zachhazard@lane_lane_lane Vis a vis AIDS/COVID, I was mostly speaking of how "those people deserve it", while still sadly present, isn't a mainstream media message any more. The awful effects of social media on health information are a different story.
@zachhazard@lane_lane_lane I think trying to claim knowledge of what exactly has led to progress is a very hard case to make. Of course activists made a big difference, but I don't know that Philadelphia (just to use your example) didn't move the needle. /1
@arbitraryfinch@helloMCDM I think it's pretty funny that *this* is the cover that got you to ask "oh hey, this would be cool for my daughter" :P (I mean, I dunno, maybe she's into skeletons and goblins).
@RottenInDenmark I feel like a lot of the issue is that people view Liberalism and Progressivism as points along a line, when they are not, so while many big new media outlets are "liberal", they are certainly not "leftist" or "progressive".
@Jyrinx@Analytictheist@Popehat @reallyjww Too loose for a legal argument, sure, but seems reasonable to get the basic concept of "some speech isn't protected" across.
@Popehat@FedSoc /2 I'd think of it as akin to asking a publisher not to publish a book by a murderer in which they detail how they committed the murder. Penguin can of course do what they like, but I don't find the request incoherent at all.
@Popehat@FedSoc /1 I don't think it's about prevention, it's about not normalizing her actions. The case (and you can decide whether it holds water) is that being instrumental in overturning Roe is fundamentally different and people who claim to find it abhorrent should not do business with her.
@HelenZaltzman I grew up in Palo Alto California and I remember being stunned to the point of disbelief at how small the worldwide Jewish population was because like half the people I knew were Jewish.
@Patrick_Wyman That's just bizarre. Like totally fine to lament Heath Ledger's death, but just picking another celebrity and saying "so why are they still alive" is kinda messed up.
