Turkish arms network is quietly expanding across the Horn.

Baykar has built a growing footprint in the Red Sea corridor through drone deliveries, training, and troop deployments often in direct violation of U.S., EU, and UN embargoes.

A $120M contract in Sudan included 48 Baykar personnel on the ground, while Somalia now hosts over 800 Turkish troops operating TB2s, Akincis, and recently delivered F-16s. Ethiopia and Eritrea have received multiple TB2 and Akinci systems with confirmed strike activity, and infrastructure has been established in Djibouti and Kenya.

This is no longer just arms sales. It is the establishment of forward operating nodes and influence along one of the world’s most critical maritime corridors.

Why Turkey remains a security threat for Europe: ⚠️

📍Turkey's assertive policies, coupled with its drift from democratic norms, make it an unpredictable actor, posing risks that outweigh its potential as a reliable partner in the current landscape.

📍 Its purchase of Russia’s S-400 missile system, despite NATO objections, and its reluctance to fully align with Western sanctions against Russia over Ukraine signal a divergence from collective security priorities.
This balancing act between NATO and Russia, alongside its occupation of strategic Black Sea real estate, positions Turkey as a wildcard that could undermine unified European responses to threats like Russian aggression.

📍 Turkey’s illegal military interventions and territorial disputes with European Union. Turkey has illegally occupied northern Cyprus since 1974, controlling roughly one-third of EU territory while maintains an active threat of war (casus belli) against EU member Greece.

📍 Turkey’s frequent challenges to Greek sovereignty in the Aegean Sea, including violations, illegal claims and military provocations over maritime boundaries, suggest a willingness to assert dominance in ways that directly undermine Europe’s territorial integrity.

📍 Turkey’s foreign policy and support for jihadist factions in conflicts like the Syrian Civil War, has been linked to destabilizing effects that spill over into Europe, including refugee flows and the potential for radicalized fighters to return.

📍 Turkey has a long track record of blackmailing or threatening allies in return for concessions.

📍 Turkey’s control over migration routes has been leveraged as a geopolitical tool, with Ankara periodically threatening to “open the gates” to Europe, as seen during disputes with the EU over migration agreements.

When Cyprus assumed the Presidency, our ambition was clear: to be a results-driven Presidency, building consensus, translating strategic objectives into concrete outcomes for European citizens.

All under the objective of giving substance to European Strategic Autonomy, to European Independence, coupled with Openness to the World.

6 months later, I can proudly say that we have acted as an honest broker, approaching this institutional responsibility with strong determination and a strong sense of European duty, to deliver across the European agenda.

The progress achieved during this semester demonstrates that when we act together, with purpose, solidarity and determination, Europe delivers.

Cyprus is proudly European, and for us, a small Member State, the Presidency was a national mission, a top priority to deliver for our European family.

Παρουσιάσαμε σήμερα το νέο Σχέδιο Υποβοήθησης Εθελούσιου Επαναπατρισμού Οικογενειών στη Συρία.

Η αλλαγή των δεδομένων στη Συρία καθιστά πολλούς Σύρους μη δικαιούχους ασύλου, με αποτέλεσμα να πρέπει να αναχωρήσουν από την Κύπρο.

Το νέο Σχέδιο δίνει σε οικογένειες Σύρων τη δυνατότητα να επιστρέψουν με οργανωμένο, εθελοντικό και αξιοπρεπή τρόπο στην πατρίδα τους. Ταυτόχρονα, επιτρέπει σε ένα ενήλικο μέλος της οικογένειας να παραμείνει στην Κύπρο με νόμιμη άδεια εργασίας για 2 χρόνια.

Η πολιτική μας είναι ξεκάθαρη:

✅ Άσυλο σε όσους πραγματικά το δικαιούνται
✅ Επιστροφή όσων δεν έχουν νόμιμο δικαίωμα παραμονής
✅ Επαναπατρισμοί με αξιοπρέπεια, μέσω ευρωπαϊκής χρηματοδότησης
✅ Κανόνες, έλεγχος και σεβασμός στη νομιμότητα

Όσοι δικαιούνται διεθνή προστασία θα συνεχίσουν να προστατεύονται. Όσοι δεν τη δικαιούνται, θα πρέπει να αναχωρήσουν από τη Δημοκρατία.
