Constantly thinking about that time an exec at my job mentioned she wasn’t “used to” her new pay yet in reference to the 3% across the board increases we got.
The sheer number of staff I met who did not actually care about the population was unnerving. To top it off, many lower staff were on the verge of homelessness themselves due to wildly low pay. This won’t get better until we prioritize policy and systemic issues top down.
I worked at a men’s homeless shelter in MD and when the winter “season” was up their bed count would be cut by more than 50%. So on the first day that year my boss forced staff to throw out all belongings at 8am. They threw everything in the dumpster out back.(Continued)
Guys came back through the rest of the morning and to find literally everything they owned gone. All of one guy’s IDs had been tossed. Shelters are (mediocre at best) temporary bandaids on much larger issues and I think people would find a lot of what goes on in there appalling.
@sethmpk Our lease states if we choose to renew, rent will only go up max 4.2%. When we let our landlord know we wanted to resign he came back with a 9% increase and said if we did not agree to that he would be terminating the lease. Housing in this country is disgustingly unregulated.
PSA Arlington friends - real estate and property taxes did not increase from last CY. You probably already knew this, but your landoverlord is simply being a ✨greedy POS✨
