Huge thanks to @LGBTIintergroup, @kimvsparrentak and @MarcAngel_lu for kicking off the new mandate and shining light on the human rights of LGBTI people
@chaberchaber@kimvsparrentak @MarcAngel_lu @LGBTIintergroup@Europarl_EN "Europe needs stronger laws protect LGBTI people. Without these, we cannot talk about safety or about the rule of law and democracy. This is where we canuse the strength of the Parliament to call out these attacks and amplify the voices of the LGBTI people" @chaberchaber
Alarmed by what I’m hearing at #EuroPride2024#HumanRights Conference in #Thessaloniki but filled with hope by the energy and commitment of #LGBTI activists and human rights defenders.

The new Council of Europe @CommissionerHR Michael O’Flaherty, has highlighted that #Georgia’s new foreign agent law is likely to target #LGBTI NGOs first, amidst a rise in violence and discrimination against LGBTI people across Europe https://t.co/uHY680rKBD
As we celebrate #IDAHOBIT, let's remember: Europe needs stronger laws and policies to protect #LGBTI people. Without these, we cannot talk about safety or about rule of law and democracy in the #EU and beyond.
An #IDAHOBIT#RainbowMap message from our ED, @chaberchaber: “Europe needs stronger laws and policies to protect #LGBTI people. Without these, we cannot talk about safety or about rule of law and democracy in the #EU and beyond .” 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ https://t.co/YukKT1KSNF

This year we will have seen elections in over 30 countries of our region. We know how quick LGBTI people can be turned into scapegoats after a single political shift, when there are no laws and policies to protect them. #RainbowMap shows again: we do not have enough safeguards.
Our newly branded and reloaded #RainbowMap 2024 is live, ranking from top to bottom 49 European countries on their legal and policy situation for LGBTI people. Check it out now! https://t.co/YukKT1KSNF
We condemn in the strongest terms #Georgia’s adoption of the 'foreign agent' law today, which is clearly not the will of its people and an affront to the laws and values of the #EU, to which Georgia is an accession state https://t.co/fWcG2ruKvG
Thank you for a fantastic conversation @US_SE_LGBTQI Stern, and for your continued commitment to ensuring protections for LGBTQI people through US foreign policy and cooperation with civil society. Plenty of work ahead of us!
It was terrific to meet with A. Chaber, Executive Director of @ILGAEurope, to discuss the advancement of LGBTQI+ rights in Europe and Central Asia. We are proud to partner with civil society organizations paving the way towards progress and equality.
We are delighted to welcome the passage of the German Self-Determination Act, which replaces a 40-year-old law and brings Germany in line with human rights standards for legal gender recognition. Congratulations to the activists involved in the process! https://t.co/xATxf6AwA1
An extensive overview of developments across the region by @ILGAEurope and members, shows an alarming increase in hate speech and violence. And complacency of states that allows for it.
Our #AnnualReview2024 is out now! @ILGAEurope finds that an alarming surge in transphobic speech across Europe sparks concern for EU elections https://t.co/uei4znnSOC
Congratulations to Michael O'Flaherty from Ireland, who has just been elected as the next Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights!
He succeeds Dunja Mijatović, and will serve a six year term as Commissioner.
More details on the vote to come soon...

Activists will keep on working even in light of the risks, and it's time to recommit to supporting LGBTI organising in Russia through funding, security assistance, logistical and diplomatic support to relocations of those at risk, and other forms.
We reconfirm our continued support to the LGBTI movement in Russia after today’s ban on ‘the international LGBT movement’ as an ‘extremist’ entity, which puts LGBTI activists in Russia at real & present risk of imprisonment https://t.co/Z7KBzYwysW
Our msg from the @lgbtiera conf in Pristina: To counter the anti-gender movement we must continue to advance legal protection of #humanrights of #LGBTI people + build social acceptance + alliances. To continue doing all this, LGBTI organisations in Europe need more funding
The fundamental thing I've learned is that it is okay to have ideas, to be passionate about something, and not to be undermined in that. But also to acknowledge when you mess up and make amends. And to celebrate wins together! @ailbhes at #LJub2023 panel on solidarity and trust
There is huge pressure and we cannot deny this time is difficult, but the work continues as we continue to care for each other, and for so many others - @EvelyneParadis reflects on 18 years leading @ILGAEurope#IELjub2023
