Georgia (USA) provided temporary permits increasing log truck weight limits from 38–43 tonnes. This study found the permits did not have a significant impact on log truck crash rates, crash severity, or the mechanical condition of log truck fleets.
In response to COVID-19, Georgia issued temporary permits (March 2020–March 2023) allowing log trucks to haul up to 43,091 kg. A study found no significant impact on safety, with crash rates similar for permit and non-permit holders.
