The story of our identity, origin and ultimate destiny.

[Chaesaview @Chaesaview]

@Awaken_Eyes It is as though they remain hopelessly tethered to the legacy of their ancestors—unable to shed the deeply ingrained urge to bow before China and meekly absorb its influence.

[Chaesaview @Chaesaview]

To strengthen our evolving partnership, citizens of South Korea and the United States must foster deeper bilateral exchanges. Efforts exist within Korea to diminish the significance and scale of our traditional alliance. Consequently, expanding grassroots and civic exchange between the two nations is vital.

Wishing a very Happy 93rd Birthday to a heroic Korean War veteran, Albert!

Because of your unbelievable bravery and your family's profound sacrifice for a country and people you knew nothing about, countess lives and families are enjoying peaceful lives today.

Decades ago, you endured the freezing cold in Korea, eating cold biscuits far away from home.
Today, I hope you thoroughly enjoy this grand, delicious birthday cake you so deeply deserve.

Wishing you and your family abundant peace and good health.

I offer my heartfelt gratitude and my utmost respect to my hero today.

@JayHS482626 @jay_choi_jay @BohdanKrotevych so what do you whining about?

[Chaesaview @Chaesaview]

So I don't understand diplomacy? Then by all means, professor, take the chalk. I'm eager to learn.

Your entire argument is a house balanced on a single brick: the assumption that President Lee's version of events is the true one. But there are two accounts here, and until someone produces the paperwork, nobody gets to crown a winner. I do understand the temptation, though. It's only natural to want to believe the man you backed.

The more interesting question is why the president is flinching at a shadow this small. Suppose, generously, that Zelensky's statement is a hundred percent fiction. Is that really worth an ambassador's summons and a thunderclap of diplomatic outrage? Do we fire the cannons to swat a fly? If you honestly think so, then the one who has never opened a book on diplomacy or history is you. What you're doing isn't analysis. It's ventriloquism, and you've volunteered to be the dummy.

And consider a man who, as governor, stands accused of having a company wire millions of dollars to Pyongyang. His trial hasn't ended. It has merely been tucked away in a drawer for as long as he holds office. Is it so unreasonable to wonder whether such a man would rather scold the country that sent the prisoners south than rattle a neighbor who might, just might, be holding the key to that drawer?

And since we're wondering: why is the door still locked? One might almost suspect the prisoners were meant to be walked quietly back across the border, lights off, the public none the wiser.

@bob_hoffman_jp @soabby15 @kimhaglyong I do see Japanese people who behave in such a shameful way. But I also see Japanese people who have the courage to call shameful things what they are, openly and without flinching.

[Chaesaview @Chaesaview]

@bob_hoffman_jp That is a deeply shameful thing to do. I must say, I'm quite astonished to find a Japanese person with such... refinement.

[Chaesaview @Chaesaview]

@historia_org_pl Interesting. The body of water labeled "Sea of Japan" on that map is known in South Korea as the "East Sea." Given the Japan's competing claim to the Dokdo islets in that sea Korean may well be sensitive to that designation.

[Chaesaview @Chaesaview]

@ViiV_333 This whole situation is leaving Koreans with no choice anymore.

[Chaesaview @Chaesaview]

Ukrainan could have killed two of your fellow Koreans. Instead, they sent them back to you alive.

So why are you being so rude about it?
Why are you so fixated on the fact that we disclosed the transfer?

Has it never occurred to you that you should have made it front-page news, made it such a big story that the North Korean regime wouldn't dare think of harming their families?

And why are you so silent about the fact that a previous administration forcibly repatriated defectors and sent them to be brutally executed?

[Chaesaview @Chaesaview]

On paper, the U.S.-South Korea alliance is a commitment between two governments. But for many Koreans, it comes before the paper. It's something deeper, and it was born out of desperation.

This alliance isn't just an agreement between governments. It's a promise between two peoples. That promise was kept first in American blood, not ink, and Koreans know it well. Every society has people who take that history lightly, but they are not the majority.

That's why I believe the foundation of the alliance needs to go beyond documents and grow into real warmth and trust between our two peoples. Agreements between governments can shift with administrations and policies, but trust between ordinary people holds an alliance together far longer and a relationship built on that kind of trust cannot be easily manipulated or broken.

🇰🇷 Today, millions of South Koreans took to the streets, demanding the impeachment of centrist President Lee Jae-myung and positioning themselves against the Chinese Communist Party and communism. Today is also Korea's National Foundation Day. 🔥

[Chaesaview @Chaesaview]

Even if we accept the South Korean government's claim that there was a confidentiality agreement with Ukraine, I find the decision to keep this matter secret unpersuasive.

First, much of the information the government sought to protect had already been made public. Ukraine released footage of the two prisoners right after their capture in January 2025, and South Korean media outlets, human rights groups, and a lawmaker subsequently met and interviewed them, with the content widely reported. Their surnames, ages, faces, and wish to go to South Korea were already known. North Korean soldiers are reportedly instructed to take their own lives rather than be captured, so the risk to their families existed from the moment their capture became known. Hiding the transfer alone therefore does little to create new protection for their families.

Second, the government's "protection" rationale cannot be independently verified. Given the 2019 precedent in which two North Korean fishermen were handed back to the North at Panmunjom, if the government controls information in the name of safety, the National Assembly and the public must be able to examine whether that judgment was sound. Citing safety alone, without explaining the specific grounds for non-disclosure, is not enough.

Third, it is hard to rule out that political considerations played a role. The current administration is pursuing a resumption of dialogue with North Korea, and accepting North Korean POWs could provoke Pyongyang. Even in the recent DMZ landmine incident, critics have argued that its North Korea policy influenced the government's response. This is not an established fact but a reasonable question, so the government should disclose the specific grounds for secrecy, its duration, and whether the National Assembly was briefed.

Therefore, while a period of caution for the prisoners' safety is understandable, keeping the entire matter secret on the basis of information that was already public is difficult to justify. The government should also explain transparently whether the secrecy had anything to do with deflecting attention from domestic political pressure.

@samuelancestor @zhao_dashuai When birds say, "We fly," why won't you believe them?

[Chaesaview @Chaesaview]

@TeaTramRussia Soup?

[Chaesaview @Chaesaview]

@mrjeffu Japan, it is truly shameful.

[Chaesaview @Chaesaview]

Isn't it only natural that, for South Korea, the threat from North Korea is the more immediate one?
Moreover, what most Europeans forget is that South Korea is still a country at war.

Officially and in practice, the war in Korea has never ended.
It is only because of the Korean people's miraculous economic development and cultural sophistication that Europeans mistake South Korea for a "normal" country.
