Since you werenāt even born yet, Iām going to answer in good faith:
9/11 was Americaās collective loss of innocence. In the decades prior, weād won the Cold War by outspending the Soviets. We were the sole remaining superpower, and we were in a period of peace and economic prosperity.
Then, seemingly out of nowhere, we suffered a suicide attack with a higher death toll than Pearl Harbor. It struck a city on the US mainland, the first attack of that scale to hit CONUS since the Civil War.
In a violent flash, and on live television, our collective illusions of safety, security, and peace disappeared. For most Americans, it was the first time we ever had to contend with that scale of horror, and what it implied about the fragility of our way of life.
It was simultaneously sobering and terrifying. The American response was to launch two wars, and to restructure domestic life around the Governmentās presumed duty to spy on everyone, so nothing like it could ever happen again.
I am not being hyperbolic when I say the America we grew up ināimagined or notāvanished on 9/11.
What youāre calling a āworshipful attitudeā is a mix of reverence for the dead, and mourning for the loss of what existed before.
AS THE FATHER OF A DAUGHTER who plays a lot of sports, Iām much more concerned about womenās sports becoming an unending culture war where a bunch of hateful psychos endlessly mock what she does. What are we doing here.
PabloReports: What do you make of Pete Hegseth refusing to promote qualified women of color?
AOC: Heās an unqualified man in his role, so of course heās threatened by women who are twice as good as he is.
Hot take: A manās dream of becoming a father is made possible through a womanās body, her health, her time, her career, and often, parts of her freedom.
Yet when a woman hopes for comfort, security, or a better quality of life in return, sheās often criticized for expecting too much.
NPR didnāt make this up. They didnāt have bad sourcing. They just ran it too early. Alito is definitely retiring and we are definitely *fucked*
This shit is why I will never let go of 2016 and will never forgive anyone who didnāt vote for Hillary Clinton. It was our last chance.
THE GREATEST JAMEIS WINSTON CLIP OF ALL-TIME.
āThat 9-year-old girl sprayed with hoses, attacked by dogs, and jailed for marching is still alive today. History isnāt behind us ā weāre living in it now. Uncomfortable moments can divide us or help us growā
Megan Rapinoe: I know what happens in those locker rooms. People get brought in, you have no say. To have the President on the phone, you get yourself wrapped in this moment. For me, the choice point is like, I would've never as a captain or a leader on my team, that would've been clear to our staff: Those people would never be allowed in our locker room.
@shannonrwatts K but honestly what better punishment than having to sit thru 2.5 HOURS of Trump trying to talk. I mean, these guys are hungover and likely neurodivergent, can you imagine that combo trying to stay still and quiet lol
The U.S. men's hockey team won gold -- and then lost the room.
A column on fragile, fleeting unity and an historic team that let its moment drift into political manipulation:

AND thereās a whole OTHER team of people policing said social media accounts. Thatās not even taking into account the govt. Quinn Hughes got told to delete his post. The USOC doesnāt eff around about that kind of thing. If they could erase Alysaās clip frm the internet they would
Boy. I need everyone to touch some grass and learn about what it means to be on Team USA - there are like, seven codes of conduct you sign, including a social media code of conduct. There is a whole team of people telling you what youāre allowed to wear and when at the Games.
i hope guillaume and laurence never know a day of peace btw. i hope their reputation as rape apologists follows them to every public appearance they ever make for the rest of their lives
Here is my story on the French ice dance team that just won the Olympic gold medal. For them, it all began with the banishment of a skater after an alleged sexual assault.
laurence fournier-beaudry defends her rapist boyfriend and blames the victim, while guillaume cizeron belittles his former partners own sexual assault experience, while also supporting the rapist boyfriend. your olympic champions everyone!
