But to play it off as “another day at work” because you don’t know how to relate is not offensive, it is just wrong, somewhat selfish, and immature. It’s ok to say, “I can’t imagine, talk to me.”

A random thought:

1) don’t try to verbally relate to a nurse (especially depending on their unit) like you understand their struggle. You have know idea. You. Have. No. Idea. As one in the ER, please tell me the last “customer” you flew out in a helicopter or watch pass away.

It’s better to listen or ask questions. But to diminish what we go through by comparing it to the majority of jobs is the problem. Come and observe for a day. Then weigh it on your scales of understanding. We chose this life to help.
