๐ฏ I believe this is why so many of us are burned out. We know we arenโt giving the kind of care people need and deserve. We could, though, with more time, education, and resources to focus on nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress mgmt.
If a healthcare provider is only allowed to spend 10 - 15 minutes with a patient every 6 - 12 months, then yeah, patients are unlikely to make lifestyle changes.
It's not because lifestyle medicine doesn't work, it's because people need more help, education, and support than 15 minutes per year.
Diet-related disease is the biggest health crisis of our time.
But instead of fixing the food system, weโre handed:
-Weight loss drugs instead of real food
-Insulin instead of reversing diabetes
-$12B in soda-funded SNAP benefits
The system profits when youโre sick.

You can't 'hack' your way out of doing the work
It doesn't matter how much you spend on red light therapy, cold plunges, exogenous ketones, grounding mats, & the like. It won't replace doing the WORK
Consistent nutrition: controlling calories, sufficient high quality protein, lots of fiber from fruits & vegetables
Train hard, consistently, & frequently
Avoid smoking, alcohol, drugs, & limit stress
The magic you are looking for is in the WORK you keep attempting to avoid...
In case you needed the reminder, CMS is yet again reducing the physician conversion factor: $33.29 in 2024 to $32.35 in 2025.
It was #36.68 in 1998.
If it kept up with inflation, it would have been $68.58 in 2023.
If you're not sure what the conversion factor means for physicians, I discussed it in a previous newsletter here: https://t.co/q3g4yEAeC5
Happy 2025.

The ACLM promotes a whole food plant based diet due to all the fantastic cardiovascular benefits. As someone who eats plenty of fish, chicken and Greek yogurtโฆthis gives me something to think about. Thoughts?

Yes, we are PCPs who can treat AF. BUT we really should be talking about prevention. Good quality sleep. Nutrition. Exercise. Weight loss. #LifestyleMedicine#ACLM https://t.co/mRRjC298SL
