औरंगजेब ने पूछाः "मतिदास कौन है?"...

तो भाई मतिदास ने आगे बढ़कर कहाः "मैं हूँ मतिदास। यदि गुरुजी आज्ञा दें तो मैं यहाँ बैठे बैठे दिल्ली और लाहौर का सभी हाल बता सकता हूँ। तेरे किले की ईंट से ईंट बजा सकता हूँ।"

औरंगजेब गुर्राया और उसने भाई मतिदास को धर्म परिवर्तन करने के लिए विवश करने के उद्देश्य से अनेक प्रकार की यातनाएँ देने की धमकी दी।

खौलते हुए गरम तेल के कड़ाहे दिखाकर उनके मन में भय उत्पन्न करने का प्रयत्न किया, परंतु धर्मवीर पुरुष अपने प्राणों की चिन्ता नहीं किया करते।

धर्म के लिए वे अपना जीवन उत्सर्ग कर देना श्रेष्ठ समझते हैं।

जब औरंगजेब की सभी धमकियाँ बेकार गयीं, सभी प्रयत्न असफल रहे, तो वह चिढ़ गया। उसने काजी को बुलाकर पूछाः "बताओ इसे क्या सजा दी जाये?"

काजी ने हुक्म सुनाया कि 'इस काफिर को इस्लाम ग्रहण न करने के आरोप में आरे से लकड़ी की तरह चीर दिया जाये।'

औरंगजेब ने सिपाहियों को काजी के आदेश का पालन करने का हुक्म जारी कर दिया।

दिल्ली के चाँदनी चौक में भाई मतिदास को दो खंभों के बीच रस्सों से कसकर बाँध दिया गया और सिपाहियों ने ऊपर से आरे के द्वारा उन्हें चीरना प्रारंभ किया।

किंतु उन्होंने 'सी' तक नहीं की। औरंगजेब ने एक बार फिर कहाः "अभी भी समय है। यदि तुम इस्लाम कबूल कर लो, तो तुम्हें छोड़ दिया जायेगा और धन दौलत से मालामाल कर दिया जायेगा।"

वीर मतिदास ने निर्भय होकर कहाः "मैं जीते जी अपना धर्म नहीं छोड़ूँगा।"

ऐसे थे धर्मवीर मतिदास ! जहाँ आरे से चिरवाया गया, आज वह चौक 'भाई मतिदास चौक' के नाम से प्रसिद्ध है।

अयोध्या में श्री रामलला मंदिर में रखे हुए दान पात्रों में जमा राशि की चोरी की दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण घटना से समूचे समाज और राम भक्तों की भावना एवं श्रद्धा को आघात पहुँचा है तथा इस घटना से हम सभी आहत हैं।

श्री राम जन्मभूमि तीर्थ क्षेत्र न्यास के आग्रह पूर्वक निवेदन पर उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार ने विशेष जाँच दल का गठन कर उसकी अनुशंसा पर क़ानूनी प्रक्रिया प्रारंभ की है। जाँच में जो भी दोषी पाए जाएँगे उन्हें कठोर दंड हो यह सुनिश्चित करना आवश्यक है।

राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ सहित संपूर्ण हिंदू समाज की न्यास से स्वाभाविक ही अपेक्षा है कि इस घोर निंदनीय घटना को असाधारण मान कर गंभीरता से व्यवस्था एवं संचालन की सभी कमियों को दूर करने हेतु परिणामकारक कदम उठाए ताकि अयोध्या मंदिर पर करोड़ों रामभक्तों की  आस्था व श्रद्धा अखंड एवं अटूट बनी रहे। वर्तमान भ्रम और असमंजस की स्थिति समाप्त होनी चाहिए। इस दृष्टि से हमारी अपेक्षा है कि सभी आवश्यक पहल मंदिर प्रबंधन और शासन द्वारा गठित विशेष जाँच दल करेंगे। हमारा यह विश्वास है कि समुचित वित्तीय प्रबंधन, सुचारू संचालन हेतु निर्दोष पारदर्शी व्यवस्थाओं एवं शुद्धता और पवित्रता से परिपूर्ण धार्मिकता से ओतप्रोत वातावरण के द्वारा श्री रामजन्मभूमि तीर्थ क्षेत्र न्यास हिन्दू समाज की आस्था एवं विश्वास को सुदृढ़ बनाये रखेगा।

A 24-year-old Polish tennis player arrived in Paris last week ranked 114th in the world, with no sponsors, no guaranteed income, and no certainty she could even pay for her hotel room.

She had to win three qualifying matches just to enter the French Open main draw. Prize money is only paid at the end of the tournament, so a Polish sports drink brand quietly stepped in and covered her hotel bill.

Her name is Maja Chwalinska. And today, she plays in the French Open final.

Before this tournament, she had won exactly one Grand Slam main draw match in her entire career. She had battled depression so severe that in 2021 she couldn't get out of bed. She underwent knee surgery in 2022. She spent years grinding through small tournaments across Europe just to stay afloat.

Then she arrived in Paris, won three qualifiers, and kept winning. Zheng Qinwen. Elise Mertens. Maria Sakkari. Diana Shnaider. Nine straight matches. One set dropped.

She is now the first qualifier in French Open history to reach the final. The last time a qualifier reached a Grand Slam final, it was Emma Raducanu at the 2021 US Open. Raducanu won.

By simply making the final, Chwalinska has earned more prize money than her entire career combined. The runner-up cheque alone is $1.6 million. If she wins today, she takes home $3.25 million.

अमीर हो या गरीब, बेहद खूबसूरत हो या साधारण — हर महिला को अपनी जिंदगी में कम से कम एक बार उस पवित्र मंदिर के प्रांगण में आना ही पड़ता था।
सज-धजकर, लोबान की महक और कामुकता की गंध से भरे माहौल में वह अपनी बारी का इंतजार करती बैठी रहती।
नियम बेहद सख्त था — कोई भी महिला तब तक घर नहीं लौट सकती थी, जब तक कोई अजनबी पुरुष उसके गोद में चांदी का सिक्का न फेंक दे।
जैसे ही वह सिक्का फेंकता और देवी इश्तार के नाम पर पुकारता, महिला को बिना किसी विरोध के, बिना उसके चेहरे या रुतबे को जाने, उसके साथ मंदिर के एकांत कक्ष में जाना पड़ता। वहां उनका शारीरिक संबंध कोई पाप या कलंक नहीं, बल्कि देवी के प्रति एक पवित्र धार्मिक कृत्य माना जाता था।
मिलने वाला वह सिक्का महिला अपने पास नहीं रख सकती थी — उसे सीधे मंदिर के खजाने में पवित्र दान के रूप में जमा कर दिया जाता था।
इस एक रस्म को पूरा करने के बाद ही उसे 'शुद्ध' माना जाता था और समाज में शादी के योग्य समझा जाता था। इसके बाद वह घर लौट सकती थी और फिर कभी किसी को उसे इस तरह मजबूर करने का अधिकार नहीं रहता था।
यह था प्राचीन बेबीलोन का वो रहस्यमयी और विवादास्पद धार्मिक-कामुक तंत्र, जिसे 'पवित्र वेश्यावृत्ति' के नाम से जाना जाता है।

आज से पवित्र पुरुषोत्तम मास शुरू हो गया है, जो 15 जून तक चलेगा. ज्योतिष शास्त्र के अनुसार, सौर वर्ष (365 दिन) और चंद्र वर्ष (354 दिन) के बीच के 11 दिनों के अंतर को पाटने के लिए हर तीसरे साल यह अतिरिक्त महीना जोड़ा जाता है. इसी वैज्ञानिक तालमेल के कारण सभी हिंदू त्योहार सही मौसम में आते हैं. भगवान विष्णु (पुरुषोत्तम) को समर्पित इस पावन महीने में किए गए जप, तप और दान का फल सामान्य दिनों से कई गुना अधिक मिलता है.

Her name was Subhadra Kumari Chauhan.

She was born on August 16 1904 in Nihalpur village, Allahabad. At nine years old she wrote her first poem. It was published in a national magazine.

At 16 she married and moved to Jabalpur. At 18 she was pregnant and leading protesters through the streets of Nagpur holding the Indian flag.

She was arrested. She became the first woman satyagrahi to be sent to jail in India.

She delivered her first daughter Sudha safely at home after her release. Then went back to the streets.

In 1942 the British came for her again. Her husband had already been arrested. She had five children. The youngest was a toddler with a cleft palate who could barely speak.

She prepared her eldest daughter to look after the younger ones. Left food for them. Then walked to prison carrying her sick youngest child in her arms.

Inside jail she gave up her own food to prisoners facing harsher punishment. She was released months later with a life threatening condition and underwent immediate surgery.

She later described all of this with humor. She said the garlands placed around her neck on the way to jail were so many that she made a pillow of them in her prison cell. They reminded her of the flowers on her wedding night.

Between arrests, pregnancies, court dates and protests she wrote 88 poems and 46 short stories.

Her most famous poem was Jhansi Ki Rani. The one every Indian child has read in school.

Khoob ladi mardaani woh toh Jhansi wali Rani thi.

She wrote it about a queen. She lived it herself.

On February 15 1948 she died in a car accident near Seoni, Madhya Pradesh, while returning from a legislative assembly session in Nagpur. She was 43 years old. A mother of five. A poet. A prisoner. A freedom fighter.

Today is Mother’s Day.

Most Indians know her poem. Almost none know her name.

पश्चिम बंगाल के कूच बिहार जिले के बामन पारा गांव में रहने वाले बनेश्वर बर्मन इन दिनों इलाके में चर्चा का विषय बने हुए हैं। वजह है उनका 15 साल पुराना राजनीतिक प्रण जो अब जाकर पूरा हुआ है।

दरअसल बर्मन ने 2011 में यह कसम खाई थी कि जब तक पश्चिम बंगाल में टीएमसी की सरकार रहेगी तब तक वह अपने बाल नहीं कटवाएंगे।

इलाके के तृणमूल कांग्रेस के गुंडे उन्हें परेशान करते थे उनकी जमीन पर कब्जा कर लिए थे फिर उन्होंने यह प्रतिज्ञा लिया था

गुरुवार को उन्होंने अपने घर के पास सिर मुंडवाकर इस लंबे प्रण का अंत किया। सुबह से ही गांव में इस खबर को लेकर उत्सुकता का माहौल था। जैसे ही लोग इकट्ठा होने लगे तो बर्मन ने पड़ोसियों और परिवार के सदस्यों की मौजूदगी में अपने बाल कटवाए। इस मौके पर गांव के लोगों ने ‘झालमुड़ी’ बांटकर जश्न मनाया।
