A new ocean is forming in Africa along a 35-mile crack that opened up in Ethiopia in 2005. The crack, which has been expanding ever since, is a result of three tectonic plates pulling away from each other.
It’s thought that Africa’s new ocean will take at least 5 million to 10 million years to form, but the Afar region’s fortuitous location at the boundaries of the Nubian, Somali and Arabian plates makes it a unique laboratory to study elaborate tectonic processes.
There are still some big unknowns, including what is causing the continent to rift apart. Some think that a massive plume of superheated rocks rising from the mantle beneath East Africa could be driving the region’s continental rift.
Each plate boundary in the Afar region is spreading at different speeds, but the combined forces of these separating plates is creating what’s known as a mid-ocean ridge system, where eventually a new ocean will form.
The three plates are separating at different speeds. The Arabian plate is moving away from Africa at a rate of about 1 inch per year, while the two African plates are separating even slower, between half an inch to 0.2 inches per year.

Unwritten rules everyone should follow at the gym
1. Put your weights back according to how much they weigh.
2. Don't drop weights. If you need to drop weights you can't handle the weight in the first place. The only exception to this is deadlifts.
3. Wipe down your bench when you're done with it you filthy animal.
4. Wear deodorant or at least smell like you've showered in the past day. No one likes the BO aftertaste when you walk past them.
5. Don't block someone's view of themselves in the mirror. When they are working out go around them or wait until they're done.
6. When lifting near the mirror step away from the dumbbell rack to give people space to grab dumbbells.
7. Cheer on the new people who are getting started in the gym.
8. Don't video people just so you can put them on social media and make fun of them later. That's a dick move.
9. Warm up and stretch in the designated area. No one wants to be dodging you on their way to the squat rack.
10. When someone is using a piece of equipment that you want make sure they finished their set before talking to them.
11. Do not be the person who hoards multiple pieces of equipment so you can do your circuit. Hoard 2 at most but leave it at that.
12. Do not hoard equipment and do convoluted circuits when the gym is super busy.
13. When in doubt, always ask for the spot. Even if you don't know people at the gym. This is also a great way to meet people.
14. When getting spotted for an exercise tell the spotter exactly how you want to be spotted.
15. If you're spotting someone give them words of encouragement and hype them up. This helps them lift more.
16. Don't do curls in the squat rack.
17. Avoid giving unsolicited advice. The only exception is if they look like they're gonna mess themselves up.
18. Don't stare at people. It's creepy af.
19. In the changing room don't be the dude who uses the hair dryer to dry his nether regions.
20. If you're video'ing yourself don't get mad if people get in your "shot". It's a public gym. Expect it and be courteous to others.
21. Don't be the guy hogging a piece of equipment for half an hour because you're scrolling your phone. Get off your phone and workout damnit.
I realize that not everyone will know these rules. It took me years to figure these things out.
In general, just be aware of your surroundings and be courteous.
Anything you'd add?

Chandrayaan-3 Mission:
Here are the first observations from the ChaSTE payload onboard Vikram Lander.
ChaSTE (Chandra's Surface Thermophysical Experiment) measures the temperature profile of the lunar topsoil around the pole, to understand the thermal behaviour of the moon's surface. It has a temperature probe equipped with a controlled penetration mechanism capable of reaching a depth of 10 cm beneath the surface. The probe is fitted with 10 individual temperature sensors.
The presented graph illustrates the temperature variations of the lunar surface/near-surface at various depths, as recorded during the probe's penetration. This is the first such profile for the lunar south pole. Detailed observations are underway.
The payload is developed by a team led by the Space Physics Laboratory (SPL), VSSC https://t.co/qBAOCsr4Vu collaboration with PRL, Ahmedabad https://t.co/7DNjnLiXua
We are officially stopping our self-funded analysis of alternative medicines belonging to Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Siddha, Unani, Naturopathy, Tibetan medicine, traditional healer formulations and quack products and those from the herbal and dietary supplements industry.
Yesterday we sent out the last 70 samples for analysis to our independent lab partner.
Our Lab partners are very nice. They gave us multiple deferred option payments so that we could run projects smoothly. But the debt is building and we have to clear it and call it a day. But we did good and we held on strong.
It has been a wild ride. Starting from 2017 until 2023, we would have spent close to 100,00,000+ Indian rupees paid out from our pockets to help ourselves understand what the public was exposed to.
It has been personally, mentally, physically, professionally and financially a draining process for us, especially me.
We spent time retrieving, analysing and studying the contents of these products. I remember grieving family members travelling as far as 350 km from our hospital to their homes to retrieve the Ayurveda formulations for us to analyse. A husband travelled back all the way home to get a multiherbal product that his wife had used for her diabetes. His cousin kept watch over his wife, admitted to the ICU at the time. Unfortunately she died without getting a transplant on time. He never came back to me to discuss results of the analysis. I understand now.
The worst, worrying part of it all, that made me lose sleep and got me onto social media to voice concerns of Ayush public health damage was that all of these, were avoidable deaths.
Through this, we were able to educate hundreds of thousands of people about the harms that alternative medicine industry, especially AYUSH in India exposed people to.
Through the years, we published more than original papers on it and became the only clinical research group that published on this intimidating topic from the heartland of Ayush practice, from India.
And we paid great price. From battling litigations, spending money on legal notices, facing cops in the outpatient department, answering summons from the State and Central Ministries and facing physical amd mental harassments, we have come a long way.
I learned a lot through this selfless practice. I found that lack of empathy from real doctors, the selfish survival tactics from Ayush practitioners, the false narrative peddled by Ayush that alt med was cheaper and safer, the greed of business, the indoctrination of religion and primal traditions/culture and a spiraling scientific temper boosted by nationalism and politics were reasons for people dying from unscientific health seeking behavior.
But all of these analysis, done on almost close to 350 types of formulations will not go to waste. Once completed, we plan to make this one of the most educative, effective, alternative medicine demystifying peer reviewed publication that will stand the test of time.
I wish to thank everyone on and off Twitter, who helped me carry my voice, studies, experience and communications on critical thinking and medical science to the masses.
I will now focus on completing my book deal, conducting academic sessions at the Institute, designing and running clinical trials and improving collaborative efforts for research at global level for my Unit.
And after all these years, this is my summary of what I have learned so far - "Ayush is the shittiest healthcare practice there is and will remain so in the future."
Thanks again and love to all.
I dated a guy for years in college but it didn’t work out, I was telling my dad that it’s upsetting to have a failed relationship to which he said-
“the fact that you remember each other fondly means that it wasn’t a failed relationship”
@pradeepmagazine Arjuna is just a medium through which the lord's word reaches us. He is a cog in the wheel. Him not picking up his weapon on the battlefield threatens to disturb the natural order (I guess), the maintenance of which is Krishna's responsibility.
@pradeepmagazine I guess it's an interpretation of doing one's duty even if it means (analogy) killing your kith and kin. Lord Krishna is not exhorting Arjuna to kill but to do his duty which just happens to be at the time to fight.
This is so shameful, the way they have totally destroyed Kangana's office. Absolute, absolute carnage! My heart bleeds seeing this injustice. Shame on you, BMC, stooges of the government. Chhi!
Oh, sorry, wrong picture. This is the JNU Library from that night. Sorry sorry. Oops.

@sardesairajdeep@aajtak@IndiaToday How is the last hashtag not legitimizing the filth thrown by the godi media? People respect you @sardesairajdeep for one of the few upright newsmen don't let it whittle away.
Exactly 65 years ago, a film released, made on a tiny budget with mostly amateur actors by a former advertising man. Pather Panchali was part financed by the West Bengal Roads Department as the title literally meant 'Song of the Road.'
Satyajit Ray's classic changed Indian film.
