This transfer window has felt a bit… odd.
Huge fees being shuffled between Premier League clubs for players who haven’t necessarily done enough to justify them. Values seemingly rising regardless of performances. Academy players treated as accounting opportunities. Clubs buying from each other at enormous premiums.
Maybe it’s just what happens when the league is awash with money and financial rules incentivise trading.
But the whole thing has felt strange, artificial and, at times, uncomfortable. Some of the fees, valuations and mutually convenient deals make it hard not to raise an eyebrow.
Manchester City can have absolutely no excuses to not win this league. They’ve spent £1billion in 18 months. Absolutely insane.
All whilst being investigated for 115 charges. Shambolic.
The English Premier League has 20 teams. Out of these 20 teams, only 2 make profits on deadwood players year after year. Coincidentally, these two clubs have been charged with 115 and 74 cases related to historical financial and regulatory breaches.
I don’t want to speak.
A financial sanction of £10m for a club that spends as it pleases, with no regard for the rules or regulation around dealing with agencies, is frankly, a disgrace. It’s a drop in the ocean for one of the dirtiest clubs in the game and if anything, acts as an incentive to do more.
If Manchester City complete the signing of Bouaddi, they’ll have spent 819m in just 18 months around 100m shy of what Arteta has spent across six and a half years at Arsenal.
The expectation next season has to be winning the Premier League. Not competing. Not “being in the mix.” Winning it. You cannot spend that amount of money in such a short period and ask for patience. The pressure should be enormous.
Ok I have to say this
♦️Partey
♦️Odegaard
♦️Saka
Crucial to our chances
The word influential doesn’t quite cut it
They are going to get flogged on international duty you just know it - while others all of a sudden are injured
Be smart chaps
I feel better now 😡👀🤔😂
Neither of Arsenal next 2 league games televised. Only yesterday at Fulham of last 4 on TV. So only 1 from 6 games televised for first title charge in a decade. @premierleague your domestic TV service is an outdated joke.
@WestStandTone Ever since Paul Tierney handed Spurs that ‘penalty’ for Cedric last year, and then gave that lot another nothing pen in their next game (that they scored to win 1-0) I’ve been convinced PL/FA are outright corrupt or following #narrative orders from £££
