@atlhummingbird@PrincipalsCtr Yes! Those external pressures can create white noise blocking out the sounds of the voices we really need to hear/prioritize.
A5. My lesson learned is a reiteration of my email signature & refrigerator magnet: "Be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars. In the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul." So important for this work. #GSUEdLead
@taaluwtlee @PrincipalsCtr Persistence can sometimes cause us to act blindly, however, so we have to make sure that we've built in progress monitoring and evaluation phases to truly analyze our initiative's effectiveness.
A4. A few things stood out: The gravity of our work with students, families, and fellow educators every day and the need to have a defined playbook and roadmap to effect meaningful change. One step at a time, one priority at a time. #gsuedlead
A3. I couldn't agree more, despite external pressures and current realities that may tempt us to speed up and act. Getting to the root of an issue takes time and an understanding of multiple perspectives. #gsuedlead
A2. The idea that leadership must be shared stands out because we must all contribute to creating the type of environment we want to see. One person cannot carry the vision alone. #gsuedlead
RETRO A5. The challenges that exist can be debilitating and almost soul-crushing, but there are also opportunities that make being an educator/leader life-affirming and empowering. We have to do better and do more in the best interests of all students. #GSUEdLead
RETRO A4. Implicit biases exist & have helped create the hidden curriculum privileging some people, ideas, & values over others. People in low-opportunity communities have these biases as well; what they frequently lack is the power necessary to effect change/policy. #GSUEdLead
RETRO A3. Conflict theory speaks to the disparity b/t โdisadvantagedโ & advantaged students. For the disadvantaged, obedience is key; for the advantaged, it's innovation & autonomy. All leaders have to think about the systems in place that perpetuate that reality. #GSUEdLead
RETRO A2. I canโt help but think about the impact on reforms for minorities and disadvantaged communities. Equity is still a struggle and has been since formal educationโs inception. #GSUEdLead
