Just had a dream that I saw Tori Amos & Prince perform "Precious Things" at some sort of music festival; it was a classic case of 'brain, you're getting all the little details wrong, but somehow capturing the perfectly impossible feeling.'
@seanpatrickcain@muscularpikachu Good call on The Double Life of Veronique. That movie blew my mind when I came across it on the newly-available artsy cable channel as a 19-year-old.
@muscularpikachu Any/most Wong Kar-Wai films. Chungking Express is my favourite, but In The Mood for Love, Happy Together and Fallen Angels are all probably a bit more Star-Crossed.
Whenever I think about how much something costs, I feel sad. It doesn't matter if the number is big or small, cheap or expensive. Just this completely superfluous fact, stickered onto everything.
@TraktorofLA@codekoan @MikeSington Can experts always do those steps in 15 seconds, or only sometimes? We only see the physical part, but it is just the visible end of a longer chain of execution which is happening mentally. Even given infinite time to study the cube, it's still obviously more than hand-speed.
@TraktorofLA@codekoan @MikeSington It depends how close to the median of top competitors 15 seconds is for visually solving a cube, mentally converting your solution into the series of physical manipulations, and then memorizing that series of manipulations. I'm fascinated by this decision, and the choice of 15s.
one thing I didn't anticipate about moving into a pets-OK building was how often I would have to wonder: is that dog just having a bad day or has its owner had a stroke and is lying on the floor of their apartment dying right now?
