On our way to reach out to the flood victims of Upper Assam, we stopped by Zubeen da's memorial to seek his blessings, hoping to be guided by his humanitarian vision in our work. We must carry forward his ideals through our thoughts and actions.

Thailand has issued an arrest warrant for Colonel Saw Moetung, also known as Tin Win, who is a leading figure within the Karen Border Guard Force (BGF) led by Saw Chit Thu in Karen State, Myanmar. This warrant has been issued in response to serious allegations that Mr. Tin Win is involved in human trafficking operations that facilitate the illegal transportation of individuals from Myanmar to Thailand.
The Border Guard Force, aligned with the current junta regime, has previously been subjected to sanctions by the United States due to its complicity in widespread online cyber scamming activities occurring under its jurisdiction in Karen State.
Satellite images expose a horrifying truth: The catastrophic Nazira #Floods are not a natural calamity, but a meticulously engineered man-made disaster driven by unchecked sand, stone, and coal mafias! 🚨
If you compare the satellite imagery of the region from 2010 to 2024, the reality is stark and undeniable. The once lush green banks and natural courses of the Dikhow River have been mercilessly excavated and transformed into cratered wastelands. This rampant, unchecked plundering of our natural resources is the direct root cause of the current devastation in Nazira, #Sivasagar #Charaideo #Jorhat etc. I have relentlessly warned this #BJPGovernment and fought against this impending doom for years, but they chose to protect the syndicates over our citizens.
I approached the Hon'ble Gauhati High Court and filed a PIL (PIL 62/2019) against the rampant #illegalmining on the Dikhow river banks. On October 21, 2019, the High Court expected the Government to form a "Mines & Minerals Task Force Battalion" within three months to stop this menace. Despite clear judicial directives, the #AssamGovernment shamelessly admitted on the floor of the Assembly on December 22, 2021, that the formation of this 200-member Task Force was still merely "under process." I raised this issue again in the March 2022 #Assembly session, demanding to know what concrete steps were taken to stop the illegal trade of forest and mineral resources as per the High Court's directives.
Following my persistent complaints, on January 12, 2022, the Assistant Executive Engineer (Water Resources, Nazira Sub-division) inspected the illegal mining sites near Bamunphukhuri Tea Estate and Santak. He gave a stark, written warning that continued #excavation would alter the river's course and bring massive devastation. The #BJP Government buried this report to protect the mafias. Most recently, on June 15, 2024, I wrote directly to the Environment & Forest Minister, explicitly warning about the imminent threat of the Dikhow River altering its course due to this unabated illegal mining and the existential devastation it would cause.
But all the stark warnings were deliberately ignored. The people of Nazira are now paying the ultimate price—losing their homes, their livelihoods, and their loved ones—because of this unholy nexus between the #Government and the mining mafias. #AssamFloods #Assam #Disaster

In a viral video circulating on social media from the flood-hit areas of Upper Assam, controversy has sparked after a relief volunteer identified as Nipul was seen distributing relief materials while allegedly lecturing and humiliating the people receiving assistance.
Nipul appears to question the recipients about their livelihood while lecturing them about the kind of work they do.
During the interaction, the volunteer is heard saying, “Ahoms once ruled Assam. You must read the history of Lachit Borphukan or Kanaklata Barua. Nowadays, our youths are just driving rickshaws in Assam for a livelihood.”
The incident has drawn criticism online, with people questioning the manner in which relief was being distributed and arguing that flood-affected families already facing hardship should not be made to feel humiliated while seeking assistance.
Internet questions the time of the statements and the lecture, especially when people have been suffering and queuing to receive flood relief.
Internet says that the volunteer had hurt the self-respect of distressed people in the name of helping them.
