Majority of cultural activities are now far beyond the financial means of a working-class family. Whether it be watching a premier league football team, going to the theatre, watching your favourite rock or pop star live โ the average cost for a family is more then a monthโs rent

What a thought provoking keynote from @SteveRoberts_ this morning about the negativity that underpins many academic and public imaginings of working class masculinity and how this can distract from, and benefit, those who gain the most from patriarchy. #UUStopTheClock
A fantastic presentation by my former colleague Alice Weavers about the reality of young peopleโs participation in policymaking, drawing on her PhD findings and data we collected together for @YoungLivesKCL ๐๐ป๐๐ป #UUStopTheClock
A beautiful and inspiring keynote by @tania_dsc on youth work as heartwork; the love and the heartbreak of this critical engagement between youth workers and young people, particularly in these turbulent times. #UUStopTheClock

An amazing photo of my niece caught eating marmite from the jar while dressed in marmite colours! @marmite - I think she should be your new brand rep ๐
This is next level by the DWP. The usual pitting people against those on benefits. โCheatsโ, โscroungersโ, stuff weโve been peddled forever. SO undermined by actual data, & so depressing but unsurprising to see it militaristically fronted by the Minister for Disabled People.
For anyone who doesnโt have TikTok: thereโs a trend at the moment where people are romanticising their lives by editing them like Wes Anderson and itโs honestly so creative and wholesome
๐งต๐ Here are a few of my favourite ones
Great paper, available on open access, by my colleagues that powerfully challenges the idea that the economic impacts of the Covid-19 crisis were 'unprecedented' for young people, who have been experiencing labour - and other forms of - insecurity for decades. โฌ๏ธ
New paper: "Liminality, COVID-19 and the long crisis of young adults' employment", by H. Cuervo, @qtmaire @julia_anne_cook & J. Wyn. Open access at: https://t.co/fK8sR3do32
@MysteriousDrBex @wiasnofficial @rogermacginty @LucyGoBag@PriyamvadaGopal This frustrates me so much! I recently moved from the UK to Australia for a postdoc-they offered me $11k relocation but had to pay it up front and I havenโt had a penny back yet. Impossible without my partnerโs savings/didnโt cover everything. Such a presumption of resources.
This paper is free to read and draws on research I did with young people during the height of the pandemic about their experiences of food insecurity. As ever, extremely thankful to young people for sharing their experiences with me.
In case you missed it, read 'Young and hungry in the United Kingdom: a qualitative study of youth food insecurity in Edinburgh and London' for ๐
@char__mcpherson draws on qualitative interviews to provide insights into youth #FoodInsecurity in the UK ๐
