Food Security is Central to Sustainable Development
Food security is fundamental to the development of any society. Without reliable access to food, it is difficult to achieve sustainable economic growth, improve livelihoods and build a prosperous future.
For Katsina State, where agriculture remains a major source of livelihood, protecting our farmers, farmlands, water resources and food systems is therefore a priority.
Today, I launched the $1 million “Protecting Food Security Against Recurring Floods and Drought” project, aimed at strengthening the resilience of vulnerable farming communities against the growing impact of climate change.
Implemented by Mercy Corps Nigeria in collaboration with the Katsina State Development Management Board (KTDMB) and the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, the project will initially cover Bindawa, Bakori and Kafur Local Government Areas.
The intervention will focus on land restoration, improved water and drainage management, rehabilitation of solar-powered water systems, better food storage, reduction of post-harvest losses, climate-smart agriculture and livelihood diversification, with particular attention to vulnerable households, women, youths and smallholder farmers.
I have directed relevant government institutions to ensure effective coordination and monitoring, while also exploring opportunities to scale up similar climate-resilience initiatives across the state.
Our goal is to build a more resilient Katsina, one that can withstand climate shocks, protect livelihoods, improve agricultural productivity and ensure that our people have greater access to food and economic opportunities.
I commend Mercy Corps Nigeria, KTDMB, our development partners and all stakeholders for this timely intervention.

@otakerioghenero@ruffydfire My President is handsome. He is a good man. I did not say good leader before you crucify me. I will track from Abuja to my village during the 2024 Christmas holidays because of his unworkable Tinubunomics.
@Oluwatoyinzoe@aonanuga1956 The President and his government is not complaining about fuel prices. Their target one USD per litre of fuel nothing more.
