Yesterday afternoon, the Bank of Uganda proudly joined the 2026 Nsambya Babies Home Charity Walk with a contribution of UGX10,000,000 and Governor Atingi-Ego as the Chief Walker, reaffirming our commitment to supporting vulnerable children and strengthening communities.

This annual fundraising initiative raises vital resources to provide medical care, nutrition, rehabilitation, family tracing and reunification, foster care placement, adoption services, and follow-up support for children under the care of Nsambya Babies Home. Part of the funds raised will also establish a sustainability fund to help ensure the Home can continue providing quality care for years to come.

At the Bank of Uganda, we believe that economic growth is ultimately about improving people's lives. While price stability and a resilient financial system are essential, they are a means to a greater end: building a society where every Ugandan has the opportunity to thrive.

The children we support today are Uganda's future entrepreneurs, innovators, professionals, leaders, and parents. Investing in their health, protection, and development is an investment in our nation's future.

Yesterday, (Saturday 25th July 2026) after participating in the maiden #NationalCleaningDay, we joined Nsambya Babies Home for the 4th edition of the Fundraising charity walk that aims at raising income for the care of the children.

The Commissioner General, @URA_CG who was represented by the Commissioner Strategy and Risk Management, Charles Kizito, thanked the reverend sisters and caregivers for the love and dedication they pour out to the children.

To the reverend sisters and all the caregivers: Thank you for the love you pour into these children, you give them a home when the world turned its back. URA salutes you," Kizito said.

The walk started from the Uganda Railways ground to Nsambya babies Home attracting quite a number of people along the way.

Earlier today, I engaged with banking and telecommunications sector leaders at the 8th URA Biennial Bankers’ Conference.

I appreciated the financial sector’s role in revenue mobilization and enabling efficient payments and collections, and we discussed its importance in expanding the tax base and sustaining revenue growth.

Strong public-private collaboration is central to building trust, strengthening institutions, and supporting inclusive economic growth.

Tax non-compliance remains a concern despite growing contributions from the financial sector. While many institutions report strong profits reflected in dividends, some still fall short of meeting their full tax obligations, undermining fairness in the tax system.

Delayed payments, unresolved disputes, and incomplete disclosures continue to pose challenges, with some cases dragging on for years. These gaps highlight the need for stronger collaboration, enforcement, and better cooperation between taxpayers and authorities.

The CG emphasized that institutions have a responsibility not only to clients but to the country, urging them to pay their fair share and actively support the tax compliance processes.

Overall, he called for greater accountability, timely compliance, and a shared commitment to national development through proper tax practices.

Development finance must translate into stronger domestic capacity. Today, I engaged the African Development Bank on digital tax transformation, trade facilitation, and institutional capability building.

Our strategic direction is deliberate, focused on scaling domestic revenue, formalizing the economy, and anchoring Uganda’s growth on a resilient, self‑sustaining fiscal base.

We have opened a service centre on Nakivubo Road to bring tax education closer to Kampala's traders.

"This centre supports URA's strategy to empower SMEs with knowledge and build a strong tax culture.'' said Kizito Charles Kasozi, Commissioner of Strategy and Risk Management.

He noted that enhanced taxpayer education is a key pillar of URA’s five-year Corporate strategy for FY 2025/26 – 2029/30, which seeks to promote a taxpaying culture that thrives on citizen participation.

Mr @ErnestRubondo, the ED of @PAU_Uganda led a team from the Authority for a courtesy visit to @UNRA_UG. Mr Rubondo appreciated @UNRA_UG for its support in taking forward the oil and gas sector of Uganda, especially in infrastructure development. (specifically the critical oil roads) The team provided real-time sector updates to the officials from @UNRA_UG which is one of the Authority’s strategic stakeholders. The officials also held discussions on possible areas of collaboration between the two Authorities.

Mrs. Allen Kagina, the @UNRA_ED led the meeting. They committed to continuous engagement, information sharing on linkages, and fast tracking the construction of critical infrastructures to support the @EACOP_ construction materials transportation.
