Incentivising 'young people' to go ~40x leveraged into an asset class with flat/negative real returns doesn't strike me as the 'good growth in every postcode' we were promised... π¬
π¨ BREAKING: Andy Burnham will announce a new "Help to Buy" scheme next week
Called "Your First Home", it will allow young people to buy their first home with a deposit of just 2.5%
so many european candidates that I interview ask me about our '3-5 year exit plan'...
solving ambitious problems is one of the most fulfilling things you can do
why sell out of the best job in the world
EXCLUSIVE: Monzo, the digital lender which has become one of Britain's biggest consumer banks, is in talks about a sale to Brazil's Nu Holdings which could value it at between Β£8bn and Β£10bn, ending the prospect of a near-term IPO of a UK fintech champion. https://t.co/V1IVOIJsLc
Most founders I speak to completely underestimate the value of a great recruiter.
The binding constraint on your ambition will always be the number of exceptional individuals you have.
Top recruiters can systematically identify them while maintaining a low false positive rate.... it's why @fuseenergy we have 40 of them π
The narrative that the UK power grid is physically constrained is true, but incomplete.
The @fuseenergy development team have found >500MW sitting available today with 0 engineering work needed to connect (using our grid models π).
Capacity is there, it's just blocked by bureaucracy.
The government should stop spending time finding funky new acronyms to call their departments, and instead focus on unlocking the potential that already exists in our infrastructure.
@greggcarey Exceptional people deliver >10x on whatever you pay them. It make sense to maximise surface area and hire every single one we come across.
"There are things in the world that don't exist today, that would exist if energy prices were ten times cheaper." - @alanchanguk
We have grown used to a world of limits. But look closely at almost anything and you'll find the price of energy hiding inside.
At Fuse, our cost of delivering energy is already 17% lower than incumbent energy companies.
So, want more. Demand more.
Last night we hosted Abundance: Building the UK Energy System at our new office - an evening of conversations with the people who shape policy, on the challenges that will define UK energy over the next decade.
We were honest about the problems. Energy costs are too high. Demand is about to surge as AI and electrification take off. And growth is slow because Britain can't build fast enough: grid connections take years, planning decisions drift past their deadlines, and plug-in batteries that could cut household bills sit behind a safety study, with rules not expected before 2028.
But the message of the evening was optimism. Every one of these barriers is fixable - and we're ready to work with government to get it done.
We especially want to thank @KanishkaNarayan, Minister for AI; @ClaireCoutinho, former Shadow Energy Secretary; @JohnFingleton1 CBE; @Jameswise (Balderton Capital); and @HarryStebbings (20VC) for joining our founders @alanchanguk (CEO) and @charlesorr (COO) on stage.
Thank you to everyone who joined us. The problems are known. The fixes are on the table. Now we build.
until we fix the fundamentals, the UK economy is going nowhere
read this from @alanchanguk on what weβre doing at Fuse to fix it

@RobertBoswall@jackwiseman_@alanchanguk Worth accounting for Opex. If opex was 0, plants in the US with paid off capital costs wouldn't require subsidies to stay alive.
