@yhdistyminen It's weird it's almost as if we're all people who support different policies for different reasons and reducing the discussion to name calling is a bad thing.
@joelcolucci@crosstown_line TBH my gut is more in line with the OP. For individuals it'll be annoying for a week and then become normalized. Gets more complex with buildings (though having been on a co-op board in the past, you just do it. We've had to separate building recycling ourselves to avoid fines.)
@sebkrier We don't even have a good idea of what's alive outside of AI. Are viruses alive? Prions?
AI is unique form of emergence from a complex system. And that complex system contains interactions with human intelligence.
@QueensCrapper TBH I'm not exposed to the news surrounding this enough (so thanks for sharing,) but aside from the truck traffic bringing them in I'm not super concerned.
In my original point I brought up ebikes bc they don't magically explode. They explode when standards aren't met.
@QueensCrapper This might just come down to people like what they like, but I'd be much more concerned sending my kids to school next to an auto body shop than energy infrastructure.
Full disclosure though if I had the choice I'd choose neither.
@QueensCrapper In terms of blowing up can you be more specific about what you're referring to? Unless there's a catastrophe (on the order of Sandy causing explosions near Stuy Town) what is the risk?
@QueensCrapper That's my point! Why doesn't he care about an auto body shop (existing or new) but he cares about this? If I had a choice (and kids) I'd be more concerned about that.
It's not genuine. I don't care what your politics are, just have a bit of critical thought with these things.
@QueensCrapper I'll grant Maspeth probably has unique zoning requirements (industrial and residential are really close together there,) but I'm not trusting what Bob's saying, and it's not bc I disagree with his politics.
@QueensCrapper He's specifically mentioning battery fires, it's obvious what he's referring to there (aside from "energy experiments," which sounds to me like a dog whistle to stoke feelings of distrust.)
He wouldn't be posting this if it were an auto body shop.
I was surveyed for this "wasteful project."
Yeah they asked me to rank the Nat Park I was in (Grant's Tomb.) They also asked what other Nat Parks I've been to. This is textbook market research.
Think about what DOGE is saying for 5 seconds before believing the spin.
@AsadFromNYC I've always liked the argument that we're the remnants of Dutch America. Our commercialism isn't Tory, it's cosmopolitan (we accept you as long as you're profitable.)
@QueensCrapper Someone with a real policy on ebike safety would be aggressively cracking down where it matters. None of this reactionary get rid of all ebikes. Institute battery swaps so people aren't storing batteries in homes. Give a fine if a battery traded in is illegal.
@QueensCrapper The other difference is most tech we use have standards. It's easier / saves more $ for a delivery driver to have a cheap knockoff battery than it is for your phone to have a cheap knockoff battery.
If this facility can help with that problem, it's a net benefit.
