Passing Down a Legacy of Curiosity: Building a Tech Journey with My Son ❤️
Growing up, I was fortunate to be surrounded by a family deeply passionate about science, math, and technology. My journey in tech didn’t start with a degree or a formal career—it started with my grandfather, who was an educator and a pioneer. He didn’t just teach science and math; he lived it through experiments. His philosophy was that the best way to learn was hands-on, so he filled our lives with exciting experiments designed to spark curiosity 🔬.
My grandfather believed that science was something to experience, not just read about. He would show us how physics worked by making simple machines from everyday objects, conduct chemistry experiments in our backyard 🧪, and demonstrate the principles of magnetism. For him, learning was about asking questions and then finding the answers by experimenting. It wasn’t just theory; it was about touching, seeing, and doing.
My father inherited that same passion. In 1956, he worked with NASA at the tracking station near Cotopaxi volcano 🌋, helping monitor the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo spaceships 🚀 that flew in orbit high overhead. He later became a top systems engineer at IBM and a programming expert in AS/400, always encouraging hands-on learning.
He also introduced me to chess and programming, teaching me DOS and BASIC when I was young. With his guidance, I even created a simple word game 💻. Now, he’s passing on that chess wisdom to my son as well, continuing the tradition of strategic thinking and learning through play ♟️.
Though I didn’t pursue a career in IT, I’ve always stayed up to date on the latest tech developments—from cloud computing and AI to modern app development and process automation. My natural curiosity allows me to quickly understand complex concepts, which keeps me deeply connected to the evolving world of technology.
I’ve already taken on the role of a science teacher (just like my grandfather!) for my son. We’ve explored magnetism, light, prisms, and even built a Tesla coil ⚡️ for electricity experiments, which we’ve shared with his entire class!
Now it’s my turn to pass that passion for learning on to my son. Together, we’re embarking on a new challenge: creating a dinosaur-themed survival game on @Roblox 🦖.
I’m excited to see how far AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, or LLaMA can guide me in coding this project from scratch—even without professional experience. We’ll be learning together, step by step, and I’ll involve him in every part of the process to ignite his own curiosity in science, tech, and coding.
This project isn’t just about creating a game—it’s about continuing the legacy of hands-on education 🛠️. I’ll be sharing updates as we reach milestones.
If you have any tips or suggestions, I’d love to hear them. Here’s to sparking the next generation’s passion for tech!

Is Bigger Always Better in AI? 🤔
Large language models like GPT-4o, Claude 3.5 or Llama 3.1 dominate headlines, but are we overlooking the potential of smaller models like Google's Gemma 2 and Microsoft's Phi-2?
Here's what makes small models intriguing:
🔹Small models can run on your smartphone
🔹Energy-efficient and cost-effective
🔹Process data locally, enhancing privacy and reducing breach risks.
🔹Real-time responses on mobile devices without needing internet.
🔹Greater transparency and customization
However, they don't match the raw power of their larger counterparts.
I believe small AI models will soon be powerful enough to be used widely for personal projects, entertainment, and everyday work tasks. On the other hand, large models will remain essential for advanced scientific research and solving complex problems with huge data sets. This balance will define the future of technology.
🔑Here is a key fact to consider: Training a single large language model (over 3 to 6 months) can emit as much CO2 as five cars over their lifetimes. Small models could be key to sustainable AI.
What do you think? Will AI's future be driven by massive models from tech giants, or will we see a shift towards smaller, more accessible solutions like Gemma 2 and Phi-2?
Ai enthusiasts I look forward to hearing your thoughts and discuss at the upcoming @Ai4Conferences event in Las Vegas, come by @coderslab_io booth #508!
