NEW: The US and UK militaries are two of the institutions most responsible for global climate breakdown.
Our report with @cpluscp finds since 2015, the UK and US militaries have emitted 430mn tonnes of CO2 — equivalent to total UK emissions for 2022 🧵

A new analysis by @howarth_cornell finds that Liquified Natural Gas exports—touted by the fossil fuel companies as a cleaner, more climate-friendly source of energy—may be worse for the environment than burning coal.

Everybody Wants Gaza's Gas
Israel & Palestine sit on $500 billion of fossil fuels. In 1999, the Palestinian Authority had their own exploration and export deals.
Successive Israeli governments did everything to kill it.
Then, they took control of it.

there is something intensely sad about knowing that the first people to devote their lives to keeping the planet from heating will not, or did not, live long enough to see if they succeeded https://t.co/VZ0XN0SaEI
Using your passport to travel around the world may seem normal to you – but that wasn't always the case. In the latest episode of DW's podcast "Don't drink the milk", @charlishld and @RachelStewart04 dive into stories of privilege, control and belonging: https://t.co/SX6YxwT3WL
Of all the pain and hardship caused by the global fossil fuel price crisis, countries like Norway have been big, *big* winners.
Norway earned more from selling climate-disaster-causing energy products in 2021+2022 than it did between 2015-2020.

BREAKING: Yet more evidence of CORRUPTION at the top of the #Cop28 @UNFCCC process.
"The UAE's state oil company has been able to read emails to and from the Cop28 climate summit office and was consulted on how to respond." 😮 https://t.co/6fJu3XDHvo
In case you wonder if teleportation is better than flying, it's not.
To teleport one human would require ~6,000x the world total energy supply, and would take 4.85x10¹⁵ years (i.e., ~350,000x longer than the universe has existed). It's faster to bike.

No, Sweden's emissions are about the same today as in 1990, it's just that more of them are now coming from biogenic sources, which aren't counted in the official stats.
It looks like decoupling, but in reality, we're still emitting like in the 90s, while destroying our forests.

Lots of solutions to cut greenhouse gas emission exist, many are cost-saving, and action is necessary across ell sectors:
➡️ electricity
➡️ food
➡️ land use
➡️ buildings
➡️ transport
➡️ waste
Oil and gas companies made historic profits last year – profits made possible by war. And they are scaling back efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. DW's @charlishld examines what is really going on in the new episode of Living Planet.
