The goal of America should be:
1. Diversity of background, combining into
2. Unity of identity, while having a
3. Tolerance of differences
We’re stuck at 2, which makes 3 impossible.
@karaoke_andi@kangminlee I see. Though if you separate the older/younger generations, I think the younger generation is more like what the OP stated. Korea has progressed so fast, the youth have so many luxuries that did not exist 20-30 years ago.
@TheOtherBill2@karaoke_andi@kangminlee That’s because it’s an ever ongoing process. The idea is the city stays up with the times, so as other areas get redeveloped, there are older areas that are then targeted, and the process repeats, ensuring the buildings don’t get too old or stay behind the modern times.
These two Englishmen can’t understand the word “공짜“, which means “free”. I’m not sure they understand a lot of what’s going on in society.
재개발 is the process of modernizing old parts of the city. It’s a lengthy process (10-15+ years) with hurdles, but it’s announced years in advance and requires resident approvals, and residents (in Seoul) usually end up making quite a bit in equity. My father-in-law is looking forward to his home in a villa being turned into a skyscraper apartment complex, as he anticipates making a lot of money from the upgrades. It’s not about the city pushing out poor people to make room for the rich.
@TXMCtrades @ducdeparma How would you propose getting us out of this mess? Long and slow Deflationary spiral? What does that even look like in practice?
@FiresOfTruth@antcrevice@SThingsMeme Sounded like he was proposing, but because they were dying imminently and would be unable to actually get married, he said “would you not marry me?”
Coulda gone either way.
Can feel the tides turning, I'm no longer being dragged and pulled this way and that. Feels like I'm finally growing into the stage of life I've been in.
Which means one thing: Time to wander out into the unknown and challenge myself to grow some more!

In a world of low birthrates, eliminating property taxes is a bad idea.
Young people are already at a financial disadvantage and have a hard time buying a house suitable for a family. Meanwhile older Americans pay much less in taxes and receive the lion's share of benefits.
@cremieuxrecueil Step 1: Cut government spending by 1/2
Step 2: Give middle class and Lower class tax cuts with some of the surplus
Not sure how you do step 1, but this effectively gives all a tax break, while increasing Wealthy’s share of tax payments. Least bad solution for individuals imo
It’s clear that this (increasing tax revenue/decreasing spending) is a topic that while both sides have valid points, no one can agree and no one wants to be the one to pay more/lose benefits (obviously!).
But the math doesn’t add up. Something has to give. If not naturally, then…?
