With all the articles coming out about the Nebraska teen sentenced to 90 days in jail for self-managing an abortion, I just wanted to flag something I wrote last week about coverage of the case.
Great thread above - unsurprising seeing VCs claim yet another technology is going to save us, when in reality AVs do nothing to "improve" the status quo except eliminate labor. Street safety is solved: design human-first streets, fund first-class public transit, and BAN CARS
@DangerATX Don't get me started! I would love it if SF turned into a bikable city like Paris.
Luckily, there are many people protesting and pushing back against driverless cars. Call me crazy, but I don't want my city to be a testing simulation!
I hate feeling unsafe & unwelcome in my own city because I choose not to drive.
🚲I stopped biking in the Mission, SOMA, FiDi, and Civic Center because it's so dangerous and no one is protecting us (Cc @SFMTA_Muni).
San Francisco can be a walkable, vibrant city if we let it!
Bike hit at Valencia and 24th by Uber driver making an illegal turn. You can see where the bike got pinned under the car.
@SFMTA_Muni@sfbike I’m telling you it’s crazy out here. Sure it’s chill at first but it ramps to 100 super fast at key junctions.
Cleveland is adopting a 15-minute city framework. Here’s what that means:
➡️ Putting people over cars
➡️ All basic needs are within a 15 minute transit ride, walk or bike ride from your home
➡️ Investment in transit and sustainability

Great Highway should be a park full time and permanently.
It’s the right thing to do for people, our city, and the planet, and it makes financial sense.
It’s time for policymakers to lead on this and make it a full-time park CC @LondonBreed@JoelEngardio

Fran Drescher, president of SAG-AFTRA, announcing the actors strike: "They plead poverty - that they're losing money left and right - while giving hundreds of millions of dollars to their CEOs"
Infrastructure influences behavior. That's my biggest takeaway from this impromptu (yet flawed) poll.
I believe that San Francisco is a cycling city, but our elected leaders have made decisions that make it less safe & reliable. Support @BetterValencia and @sfbike!
🚲 Question for SF cyclists, have your cycling habits changed in the Mission?
Infrastructure updates change behavior, but officials often forget about the people they don't see. @sfbike@BetterValencia
The writers gain power from the actors going on strike.
The actors gain power from the writers being on strike.
Collective action is our power. Solidarity is our power. This isn't just true for workers in Hollywood, it's true for the entire working class.
@BetterValencia Thank you for amplifying people's experiences on Valencia St!
I hope @SFMTA_Muni is taking feedback and improving the safety experience even during this pilot program.

They assume fewer cyclists = no one wants to bike. Instead of better infrastructure = more biking

We reduce our car dependency by making alternative transportation better.
