Job titles have become so inconsistent that they are creating avoidable problems in both recruitment and salary benchmarking.
Organisations reject capable candidates because their previous titles do not match the vacancy, while salary comparisons place very different jobs in the same category simply because their titles sound similar.
Finance provides a good example. Financial Controller, Finance Manager, Finance Executive, Head of Finance and Finance Director may describe clearly different levels in one organisation, yet substantially similar responsibilities in another.
A Financial Controller may report to a Finance Director in one company but lead the entire finance function in another. The title alone cannot tell you which job is more senior.
The same confusion exists in HR. HR Manager, HR Executive, Head of HR, HR Director, Chief People Officer and People and Culture Manager may carry different titles while performing largely the same work. Sometimes the differences reflect genuine variations in decision-making authority, business complexity and strategic responsibility. In other cases, the difference is merely cosmetic.
When we assist clients with recruitment, job evaluation or salary benchmarking, we focus on the scope of each role before making comparisons based on job titles. Without this analysis, an organisation can recruit at the wrong level, reject suitable candidates or make salary decisions using false market comparisons.
A job title is only a label. The job content determines the level and value of the role.

Harare is cracking down on InDrive drivers. Here's the wild part: nobody in this fight is actually wrong. The driver can't get a licence (there isn't one). The council really isn't benefiting. So who IS wrong?
There is far more talent available for most roles than many businesses realise. The problem is that hiring managers often limit the search to people who have already held the same job title in a similar organisation.
This excludes capable people working one level below the target role, in an adjacent role or in another industry who may have the ability and track record to perform exceptionally well.
When we search for candidates for clients, I often come across strong profiles that I know will not be considered because the client has insisted on a very narrow type of candidate.
In many cases, the ideal candidate they describe is not based on proper job analysis. It is based on the hiring manager’s personal preferences, some of which have little to do with what the business needs from the role.
It is frustrating to see a strong candidate rejected simply because they have not worked in the same industry or held the exact job title before. A different title does not mean a person lacks the required capability. If someone has handled similar challenges, delivered strong results and demonstrated the capacity to work at the required level, that evidence should carry more weight than their current title.
Businesses must stop recruiting job titles and start searching for talent. Define the knowledge, skills, abilities and personal attributes required for success, then assess candidates against those requirements. A more open hiring mindset will give organisations access to a much wider and often stronger pool of talent.

CUT ACCOMODATION CRISIS UPDATE📌
From the info we have gathered, over 900 students are reported to have been affected by CUT’s unannounced relocation. Most firstyear students are reported to have been moved to the dorms of a high school in the attached video with facilities without internet and below standard.
CUT knew this before semester began but failed to inform students. Student dignity and rights are at stake.
Renovations should have happened during the holiday. This is intolerable. Through our #TransformEducation agenda we demand adequate, affordable and standard accommodation for all. We will challenge this and push for reform.

Hi Crime watch. I am bringing to the attention to the relevant authorities concerning the road construction project happening along the Chitungwiza road. Firstly, the process is taking too long, this is obviously maybe because of funding of the project but I guess it can be corrected.
Secondly the biggest issue is dust pollution, sometimes the contractor sprays water on the detour roads but sadly on unfortunate days they don't and considering that it's a busy road and it's intimately close to a residential area, the level of dust pollution poses a very high health risk to the residents of that area, pneumoconeosis, Upper respiratory infections or even reactive airways diseases for the younger population, moreso those who are asthmatic are some of the health problems being posed by this project.

Many organizations report difficulty in finding suitable talent. However, when their recruitment practices are closely examined, the underlying issue is often not a lack of qualified candidates, but rather a hiring process that is not designed to accurately identify the right individual for the role.
One of the biggest threats to hiring the right people is self-interest among hiring managers and others involved in the recruitment process.
In some organizations, individuals go out of their way to ensure the selection of a preferred candidate, regardless of whether they are the best fit for the role. As a result, candidates may be shortlisted even when they are not suitable, and interview outcomes are sometimes overlooked or ignored entirely to accommodate personal preferences. This leads to situations where certain individuals are overrated during interviews despite clear evidence that they are not the right fit, while stronger candidates are ignored even when assessment results indicate otherwise. Shortcuts become common, and the integrity of the process is compromised.
In many cases, this reflects weak governance around recruitment within the organization. There is often insufficient oversight to ensure that hiring decisions are made objectively and consistently. Every CEO should take a strong interest in how people are hired across the organization by ensuring that a robust and tightly governed recruitment policy is in place and properly enforced.
A significant proportion of performance problems within organizations can ultimately be traced back to poor hiring decisions. Unfortunately, very few organizations consistently hire on merit.
When we work with clients we do our best to ensure hiring is on merit. Our approach begins with clearly defining the knowledge, skills, and competencies required for success in the role. Candidates are then assessed against these criteria, including cognitive ability, job-specific knowledge, integrity, and relevant behavioural attributes. This is followed by structured interviews and comprehensive background verification.

Good afternoon citizens. This is an update on the four siblings who we adopted a couple of years ago. They are still going to school.
Below are their second term results. The 11 year old boy is very intelligent and has been doing exceptionally well from day one.
The oldest boy who is 18 at grade six is pushing too. Generally there is so much potential.
Now we are fundraising for their third term school fees which is 60 usd per child, 240 usd in total for the four of them. And if there is surplus we can get them new uniforms as they've outgrown the old ones.
Dear good people may you help me raise their school fees. We removed these kids from the streets so that they get a chance in life to be better people in life. There is nothing as diabolic as being ignorant and uneducated in this cruel world. So please may you chip in whatever amount you can spare so that these kids remain in school. Any amount goes a long way in this economy. Even a dollar. My DM is open.
To the donors who have been helping me since day one, thank you very much for your kindness and generosity. Its because of people like you that these kids are going to school like other children. May you continue helping us. God bless you all.
On another note, I signed an affidavit at the police that I MaZwangendaba will be responsible for these kids' school fees. Failure to do so, debt collectors might have to sell my bed and TV, the two things I own. I cant sleep on the floor 😒. As for the TV I can't part ways with it, i have to watch Arsenal play. So please help me. 😊
My DM is open. Help me to keep these children in school. God bless you. Thank you 🤗

Our Econet voice bundle disappeared, and we have the receipts to prove it
Yesterday at 11:29 AM, we purchased a 60-minute weekly bundle via EcoCash. After making roughly 10 minutes of total calls, we were suddenly cut off mid-conversation.
Here is why this makes zero sense
• 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝: It was a 7-day bundle, purchased less than 24 hours prior. Expiration is impossible.
• 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐄𝐱𝐡𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝: Our call logs show less than a third of the allocated minutes were used, and the MyEconet platform confirms we didn't exhaust it.
• 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐆𝐨𝐧𝐞: System balance queries simply report no remaining bundle.
The bundle literally vanished into thin air.
How often does this happen when we aren't paying close attention? 🧐
