இந்த பாடலில் ஒரு வரியில் வரும் “நாரை பறக்காத 48 மடையாண்ட இராமநாடு”.

அப்படித்தான் இருந்திருக்கிறது இராமநாதபுரம். 1100 வருடங்களுக்கு முன்பே செயல்படுத்தப்பட்ட நதிநீர் இணைப்பு “வைகை” மற்றும் “சருகணி” ஆறுகளை இணைத்து RS மங்கலம் என்று அழைக்கப்படும் இராஜசிங்கமங்கலத்தில் உள்ள கண்மாய்க்கு அந்த இரண்டு ஆற்றின் நீரைக் கொண்டு நிரம்பும் வகையில் அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

இராஜசிங்கமங்கலம் கண்மாய்க்கு நீர் வரத்துக்காக வைகை, சருகணி ஆகிய ஆறுகளில் இருந்து இரு கால்வாய்களை வெட்டி இணைத்துள்ளனர்.
இராமநாதபுரம் நயினார்கோயில் சாலையில் பாண்டியூருக்கு அருகில் வைகை நதியிலிருந்து செல்லும் கீழநாட்டார் கால்வாய் மூலம் தண்ணீர் இராஜசிங்கமங்கலம் கண்மாய்க்கு செல்கிறது. இக்கால்வாய் பாண்டியூர், சித்தனேந்தல், பந்தப்பனேந்தல், தவளைக்குளம், நகரம், அரியாங்கோட்டை ஆகிய ஊர்களின் வழியாகச் சென்று வாதவனேரி என்ற ஊரில் இராசசிம்மமங்கலம் கண்மாயை அடைகிறது. இக்கால்வாய் 20 கி.மீ. தூரம் உள்ளது.
அதேபோல் சருகணி ஆற்றிலிருந்து வரும் ஒரு கால்வாய் கல்லடிதிடல் என்ற இடத்தில் இரண்டாகப் பிரிக்கப்பட்டு அதன் ஒரு பகுதி கண்மாய்க்குள் செல்லும் வகையில் அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. அதன் மற்றொரு பகுதி கோட்டைக்கரை ஆறாக கடலுக்குச் செல்லுமாறு அமைத்துள்ளனர். இக்கண்மாயின் நீர்பிடிப்பு பரப்பு 147 சதுர மைல் ஆகும். இக்கண்மாய் நிரம்பும்போது அதிலிருந்து 72 கண்மாய்களுக்கு நீர் செல்லவும் உபரி நீர் கடலுக்கு செல்லவும் உரிய ஏற்பாடுகள் செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளன.
இக்கண்மாய் சேதுபதிகளின் ஆட்சிக்காலத்தில் மிகச் சிறப்பாக பேணப்பட்டு நீரை வெளிவிட 48 மடை வாய்க்கால்கள் அமைக்கப்பட்டன.

இப்படி ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னரே நீர்மேலாண்மையில் சிறந்து விளங்கிய இராமநாதபுரம் தான் இன்று தண்ணீருக்காக இரவும் பகலும் போராடிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது. எங்கு பார்த்தாலும் தண்ணீர் பஞ்சம்.

பின்குறிப்பு: நாரை பறக்காத 48 பெருமடைக்கண்மாய் என்று ஏன் சொல்கிறார்கள் என்றால், நாரை என்பது வெகுதூரம் பறந்து செல்லும் பறவை, அப்படிப்பட்ட நாரை கூட இராமநாதபுரத்தில் இருக்கும் கண்மாயை இக்கரையில் இருந்து அக்கரைக்கு பறந்து செல்ல முடியாதாம். அவ்வளவு பெரிய கண்மாய்களாய் இருப்பதால் பாதியிலேயே இறந்துவிடுமாம். அதனால்
”நாரை பறக்காத நாற்பத்தெட்டு பெருமடைக் கண்மாய்” என்ற வழக்கு இப்பகுதியில் உள்ளது.

இதை தண்ணீர் பஞ்சத்தை சரி்செய்ய தான் நாங்கள் வேலைகள் செய்து வருகிறோம். வாருங்கள் அனைவரும் ஒன்றிணைவோம் இராமநாதபுரத்தை மீட்டெடுப்போம்.
