I have had the honor of treating @JGSchneid on #RHONJ and I’m so proud of the work we’ve been doing together. Here is a scene from last night’s episode, but be sure to keep watching, there’s more to come for this important storyline.
Love getting to collaborate with smart and dedicated colleagues from partner organizations across the globe: Canada (@theNEDIC), the UK (@beatED), Australia (@Bfoundation), and Ireland (@bodywhys)!
“For people who struggle with eating disorders, even the word ‘overindulging’ can be triggering since it puts a ‘moral value on the amount of food that's being consumed,’” explains Chelsea M. Kronengold, communications lead @NEDAstaff#Thanksgiving#Thanksgiving2021
With Thanksgiving dinner around the corner, it’s that time of year that people worry about their food intake. But does feasting during your holiday meal make a big difference for your body? 🍗 https://t.co/eP6Q0wV8t5
“Kronengold says establishing a support system ahead of time is also vital for people struggling with eating disorders. ‘Think about who you can lean on, whether it's someone in the room or someone you might have to text and check in with,’ she says.”

We've all been there. Holidays mean family time, and with that often comes the uncomfortable questions.
Here are some ways to navigate them.

"It’s okay to acknowledge that #Thanksgiving and other food and family-focused holidays won’t be easy," said Kronengold. "If you end up restricting or bingeing, remember that tomorrow is a new day."

A holiday like Thanksgiving that is centered on food, family and more food can be a precarious time for people struggling with eating disorders or disordered eating. https://t.co/jol3t64rCu
“These subtle and overt messages contribute to #weightstigma and perpetuates unhealthy #dietculture messages that changing your body, losing weight or being thinner, is viewed as a ‘morally superior’ accomplishment,” Kronengold said.

“Misconceptions about who #eatingdisorders affect have real consequences, leading to fewer diagnoses, treatment options, and pathways to help for those who don’t fit the stereotype,” Kronengold said to Spoon University.

tw: eating disorders, anorexia
By spotlighting the behind the scenes of life with an eating disorder rather than glamorizing it, @netflix's Never Have I Ever gracefully introduces not only a new character, but a somewhat taboo, triggering topic.

Although experts say TV creators are now heading in a good direction when they write stories about eating disorders, they are still worried anytime a character exhibits these behaviors onscreen.

“This is literally saying that people would rather live a less satisfying life in a smaller body than have a full and satisfying life in a larger or fat body,” Kronengold said. “And that is #weightstigma in a summary.”
Fun surprise to find myself quoted in this @Shutterstock blog post about #bodydiversity and inclusive stock photos. 📸
While progress has been made, we still have a long way to go before pictures of people in marginalized bodies—that aren’t offensive & stigmatizing—is the norm.

This is the @NEDAstaff symbol for eating disorder recovery. I painted this at @colormemine years ago.. even though I was in the throes of my eating disorder, I still made this in hopes that I would truly believe it some day. I still struggle. Daily.
As someone who was bullied at a different Camp WTF from ‘01-05, I feel this on so many levels.
Way to go @danjlevy for proving those “bully punks” wrong, and Dan Levy’s mom for this #proudmama tweet. ❤️💛
