M1:M2 VIX Futures Contango/Backwardation through the 2008 Financial Crisis
Would have required legit trading skill to navigate that one
At some point, we will be tested again...
The VIX : VIX6M ratio can be a good basic gauge of risk on-risk off
0.8836 is the 66th percentile, so about 2/3's of trading days are below that value and would be a decent baseline for "aggressive" trades
Charlie Munger:
“The secret to life is easy because it's so simple:
You don’t have a lot of envy or resentment. You don’t overspend your income. You stay cheerful in spite of your troubles. You deal with reliable people and you do what you’re supposed to do.”
6) The MODE of the VIX Index is in the 12's
As we can see, the VIX spends a lot of time in the 11 - 16 range
All in all I would say the "average" VIX index value is closer to 13
The MODE and MEDIAN are more useful than the MEAN when it comes to the VIX
A lot of traders think when the VIX index gets low, it's time to go Long Volatility $VXX $UVXY
This is WRONG! Obviously markets are uncertain and anything can happen
But when VIX is low and front month VIX future is WAY above the VIX:
This is a SHORT Volatility signal
Tactical Rotation investing doesn't always work this well, but a lot of fun when it does
Here's the 2x Nasdaq QLD that our Defensive Rotation Strategy uses for aggressive positions, with our entries and exits marked
I don't get the "Bitcoin is money" argument
Shit goes South quick if people expect their "currency" to appreciate in value
In a consumer based economy, the fact that dollars lose value is the whole point
